Position: Prep Cook - FT

Prep Cook

The prep cook assists the cooks in the preparation and service of menu items and performs a number of kitchen activities including pot washing, dish washing, general cleaning duties and storing food and non-food supplies.

Pay Scale

$17.00 – $20.00

Hours

Flexible Schedule – AM and PMs, weekends and holidays a must

  • Full-time employees are eligible to accrue up to 16 paid time off days, 6 paid holidays and 3 personal days. Pro-rated paid time off is available to part-time employees.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Current food handlers’ card.
  • Previous experience preferred of at least 3 months.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment operations and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of dietary procedures.
  • Understanding of nutrition and diet.
  • Ability to plan and organize work, set priorities and multi-task.
  • Ability to interpret instructions, recipes, specifications and standards.
  • Proficient knife skills.
  • Patience, tact, cheerful disposition, and enthusiasm.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Assists cooks in preparation and service of various foods in assigned work situations including pantry items, salads, soups, sauces, and with pre-preparation of ingredients for entrees.
  • Assists cooks in the preparation of basic dessert items and breakfast items.
  • Stocks and refills, and maintains the salad bar.
  • Stocks the hot buffet unit for meal service.
  • Removes all food from the serving lines at the end of a meal period.
  • Stores and properly handles raw foods, prepared foods and non-food supplies.
  • Operates dish washing equipment, washing pots, dishes and utensils.
  • Distributes and stores clean pots, dishes and utensils.
  • Cleans and sanitizes production equipment, work surfaces and kitchen.
  • Empties trash containers.
  • Maintains assigned work station in a safe and sanitary condition.
  • Handles food in a manner that is consistent with local health department guidelines.
  • Follow proper food handling techniques and coordinates the use of time, material and equipment to avoid waste and unnecessary expense.
