Job Overview

ARNP/PA Advanced Care Practitioner On-Call (ACP) located in Gig Harbor, WA at the Washington Corrections Center for Women (WCCW). This role may be filled by a Physician Assistant-Certified or an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP).

Location & Facility

WCCW is a 62.6-acre facility approximately two miles from Gig Harbor. The site includes living units, administration buildings, a health clinic, education buildings, a gymnasium, a chapel, industry buildings, food service buildings, and support facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Diagnose health related problems and determine outcome.
  • Ensure continuity of care. Deliver health care, defining time frames and pathways of delivery of services, and determining priorities and sequences of care to be provided.
  • Implement plan of care by providing direct patient care, directing others about urgency, time frames and methods to deliver health care on and off site; determining when need for care or services becomes urgent, need clarification, or another type or level of intervention; and taking action as necessary to provide orders and accomplish prescribed interventions in a timely and clinically responsive manner.
  • Analyze and evaluate the structure, process, and time frames for service delivery, the expected effects of treatment or intervention, the outcomes to be achieved, revision of the plan of care to prevent complications and intervene to address new or emerging problems or to improve care and service delivery.
  • Perform minor surgical procedures and suturing of simple lacerations.
  • Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic laboratory tests, ECGs and X-rays.
  • Prescribe medications including controlled substances and buprenorphine as required.
  • Refer complicated and complex cases to staff physicians and outside medical consultants and facilities when necessary.
  • Admit and care for infirmary patients when needed.
  • Provide urgent and emergent medical care both in the infirmary and in living units or other facility areas.
  • When applicable, manage a population of primary care patients in general population or in an intensive management/segregation unit.
  • Update PULHES codes to reflect changes in the patient’s condition or circumstances.
Screening & Physical Examinations
  • Complete initial screening and perform initial physical examination.
  • Initiate PULHES coding and other health classification requirements.
Communication & Documentation
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing with offenders, families, and other health care personnel.
  • Legibly document subjective and objective clinical findings and actions in the health record computerized database.
  • Protect confidentiality of health records as mandated by law and DOC policy.
  • Maintain accurate, legible, and complete records of patient care.
  • Communicate and assist in coordination of pertinent information to health care providers for community-based care.
  • Complete unusual incident reports as directed.
Quality Improvement
  • Attend facility CQIP/QMP meetings and report back to nursing and support staff.
  • Serve as the lead for at least one local quality improvement project per year.
  • Participate/represent facility on state-wide quality improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in Health Services Quality Improvement activities.
  • Practice in accordance with DOC Policy and Offender Health Plan.
  • Participate in formal clinical oversight according to facility and DOC Health Services Clinical Oversight Structure.
Assignment & Delegation
  • Evaluate and consider patient needs, condition and stability.
  • Teach, monitor, supervise, and evaluate implementation of patient care tasks.
  • Collaborate with management to facilitate implementation of processes that affect nursing staff, custody, and support staff.
Consultation with Custody & Staff
  • Provide medical health and safety advice to custody staff as appropriate and in compliance with DOC policy and HIPAA.
  • Provide medical input to respond to routine and emergency grievances.
  • Respond to incarcerated individual’s KITES.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants.
