Plan, organize, implement, and deliver instructional programs at a state school for youth adjudicated delinquent of felony offenses and assigned to a high‑security correctional facility. Assess students, provide individualized, competency‑based instruction, and maintain a positive teaching/learning environment for diverse temperaments and specialized needs.
May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and/or on call.
Essential Functions- Plan, prepare, and deliver instructional activities that facilitate an active learning environment.
- Observe and evaluate youth performance and development; provide appropriate feedback on work and monitor progress.
- Identify learning needs and interpret assessment information; select instructional resources and methods to meet diverse needs.
- Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities.
- Maintain accurate records of youth progress and development; update records as required by law and agency policies.
- Provide educational services to potentially aggressive/combative youth in a correctional setting, including concise crisis management and de‑escalation.
- Keep instructional plans current with developments in subject area, resources, and methods.
- Monitor outcomes for racial, ethnic, and gender disparities; take action to address identified disparities.
- Report safety hazards and complete required documentation for accidents/injuries within required time frames.
- Attend work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.
Bachelor’s degree; must obtain a Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject assignment area within two years of hire and have professional experience within the relevant field.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree and a valid Secondary Texas Teacher Certification in the specified subject assignment area. Must be highly qualified in all areas of teaching assignment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of state and federal education laws and regulations.

- Skill in using logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.
- Ability to implement Texas Education Agency education policies and procedures.
- Ability to review and implement agency policies, procedures, and operational guidelines.
