Job Summary

The Turner in the Tool Room is responsible for operating and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision components, tools, jigs, and fixtures as per engineering drawings. The role demands accuracy, knowledge of machining processes, and ability to work independently in a tool room environment.

Key Responsibilities

Machining Tool Making
Operate conventional lathe machines for machining precision components.
Perform turning, facing, threading, drilling, boring, grooving, and taper turning operations.
Manufacture jigs, fixtures, dies, and maintenance spares as per tool room requirements.
Set cutting speeds, feeds, and select appropriate cutting tools.
Ensure dimensional accuracy using precision measuring instruments.
Blueprint Drawing Interpretation
Read and interpret engineering drawings, sketches, and job specifications.
Plan machining sequence as per tolerance and surface finish requirements.
Quality Inspection Measurements
Use Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, dial indicators, and gauges.
Perform in-process inspection and ensure components meet required tolerances.
Maintain rejection-free machining with focus on quality.
Machine Maintenance
Perform routine maintenance of lathe machines and tooling.
Ensure proper lubrication, cleaning, and upkeep of machine area.
Work Management
Maintain job records, tool usage logs, and daily production reports.
Work collaboratively with tool room engineers, maintenance team, and production staff.
Ensure timely completion of all machining jobs in the tool room.
Safety Compliance
Follow all safety guidelines, PPE usage, and machine operating standards.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area (5S compliance).
Report any machine issues or hazards immediately.

Skills Competencies

Strong experience in turning operations and tool room machining.
Good understanding of machine tolerances and surface finishing.
Hands-on experience with precision measuring instruments.
Ability to read interpret technical drawings.
Problem-solving ability and attention to detail.
Basic knowledge of other tool room machines (milling, grinding, drilling) will be an advantage.
