Job Profile:

The Marching Band Instructor is responsible for the musical and visual instruction of the marching band. This includes teaching drill, refining instrumental technique, and managing rehearsals. You will work closely with the Head of Department to ensure a cohesive artistic vision and a safe, inclusive environment for all student-musicians.

Key Responsibilities

- Instruction & Pedagogy:
Teach fundamental and advanced marching techniques (traditional or corps style) and provide sectional leadership for brass, woodwind, or percussion units.
- Rehearsal Management:
Lead efficient rehearsals during or after-school sessions, and pre-game warm-ups.
- Visual Execution:
Clean and refine on-field drill, ensuring precise intervals, body carriage, and synchronization with the musical score.
- Performance Leadership:
Oversee the band during games, pep rallies, parades, and regional competitions.
- Student Mentorship:
Develop leadership skills within the student and maintain high standards of conduct and sportsmanship.
- Logistics:
Assist with the care and maintenance of uniforms, instruments, and field equipment (props, metronomes, sound systems).

Qualifications & Skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Music Education or a related field (preferred).

Experience

Prior experience in a high school or collegiate marching band.

Musicality

Strong understanding of wind/percussion pedagogy and the ability to sight-read scores.

Visual Sense

Ability to teach "The Box" (visual fundamentals) and interpret drill charts.

Communication

Excellent verbal skills for giving clear, constructive feedback in a large-group setting.
