Montgomery College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Unit is seeking a full‑time Adult Education Instructor to teach in‑person for the GED® Program at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in Boyds, Maryland. This is a non‑bargaining, exempt grade 25 position. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. The position is temporary, funded through June 30, 2026, with potential continuation beyond that period contingent upon need and funding.
Job DescriptionUnder general direction and/or supervision, the incumbent plans and delivers instruction targeting adult learners’ needs and goals, particularly those with variable literacy levels and at‑risk populations. The instructor provides adult basic education to:
- Pass two sections of the GED® exam, including English Language Arts and Social Studies.
- Develop basic English language skills using established curricula, materials and assessment data.
Teachers will complete detailed, daily reports; abides by all College policies and procedures; and follows all policies set by the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. This role also requires:
- Plan, develop and provide instruction in adult basic education in preparation for the GED® Exam or English language skills development.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
- Two to three years of experience teaching English Language Arts or Social Studies as they pertain to the GED® exam, English for Speakers of Other Languages, or Special Education.
- Eligible applicants must be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
- Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or related field, or in GED® exam domains.
- Strong academic background in English Language Arts and Social Studies.
- Experience delivering high‑quality GED® instruction with measurable learning outcomes.
- Experience working with diverse and at‑risk populations, preferably in a correctional or similar setting.
- Ability to provide instruction within a structured behavior‑management framework.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable, and culturally responsible educational environment.
$59,887 – $77,830 annually (maximum salary for this position is $95,773). Initial salary placement will be between the minimum and midpoint of the range based on relevant experience and internal equity.
