Job SummaryUnder general supervision, the Equipment Operator/Laborer performs various duties, including vehicle operation, heavy and light equipment operation, and manual and power equipment. Duties also include inspections of roads and road shoulders, taking corrective action on unsafe conditions, and includes physical labor.
Responsibilities- Operates various heavy equipment and machinery, including tractors, loaders, bucket and boom trucks, automated garbage trucks, dump trucks, flail mowers, ground master blowers, etc.
- Utilizes manual and power-operated equipment, including front-end loader, toro workman, pruners, weed-eaters, chainsaws, and blowers to keep roads, road shoulders, bike paths, parking lots, picnic areas, and sidewalks clear.
- Performs inspection of Roads & Grounds areas and submits recommendations on improvements to include proper maintenance and clean-up procedures.
- Performs necessary repair and maintenance to roads and road shoulders, beach crossovers, picnic areas, and other projects as assigned.
- Lays lime rock base for roads and walkways for grading.
- Performs soil excavation duties and transports leaves and limbs to landfills.
- Assists with landfill and incinerator grounds.
- Transports solid waste and recycled materials to proper locations.
- Performs duties for special events, including setup, sanitation, parking, housekeeping, and clean-up.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Minimum of two years experience in the operation of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Must possess a valid CDL driver’s license
- Required to work rotating weekends and special events.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are required.
- Exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
- More than 50% of the typical workday will be spent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, lifting, grasping, climbing, balancing, and using repetitive wrists, hands, and finger motions.
- Between 25% and 50% of the typical workday will be spent stooping, pushing, and pulling.
- Less than 25% of the typical workday will be spent kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Sensory abilities required are feeling, grasping, and touching, with between 25% and 50% of the time spent communicating, talking, and hearing.
- Visual abilities to operate motor vehicles or heavy equipment and inspect work performed.
- Work is primarily performed outside. Exposure to direct sunlight, extreme heat, high humidity and occasionally adverse weather conditions, and occasional extreme cold.
- Will be exposed to hazards such as moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, exposure to chemicals, and subject to vibration.
- Will be exposed to oils and other fluids.
- It may be subjected to atmospheric conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, or poor ventilation. It may be subjected to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
- Noise levels are considered loud.
