Responsibilities

Summary: The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for staff and operations for transporting detainees to various locations as directed by the facility. The position is also responsible for ensuring that all vehicles and equipment used by the facility perform according to standard operation policies and procedures and maintenance of them is conducted regularly and in compliance with federal, state, and organizational laws, rules, and regulations.

  • Interview and recommend Transportation Officers for hire, ensuring accurate documentation and training.
  • Provide overall supervisory duties to the transportation staff, ensuring proper scheduling, mentoring, and performance improvement plans as needed.
  • Facilitate training and refresher defensive driving courses to maintain knowledge of current policies and procedures.
  • Ensure scheduling stays within policy and regulation constraints and monitor compliance with DOT rules.
  • Monitor maintenance of all assigned vehicles, manage records, and schedule repairs.
  • Respond to roadside inspections, document corrections, and manage Safe Stat records.
  • Report and investigate all accidents, conduct safety meetings, and represent the company in legal cases.
  • Maintain regulatory knowledge through at least eight hours per year on transportation topics.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Six (6) months experience in detainee and inmate transportation.
  • Depending on state requirements, a valid “Class B” or “Class C” Chauffeur’s Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger (P) endorsement within six (6) of appointment.
  • Eighty (80) hours of verified and certified driver’s training within six (6) of appointment.
  • A current driver’s license with no preventable accidents, suspensions, or more than two (2) moving violations on any vehicle in the past three (3) years.
  • Passing a company and DOT drug and alcohol test.
  • Demonstrated supervisory experience.
  • Completed approved training program with certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Completed necessary DOT training.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Defensive Tactics, and Firearms.
  • Extensive knowledge of State/Contracting Agency laws related to corrections.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex written and oral communications and documents.
  • Decision-making ability without assistance.
  • Capability to give instructions that foster teamwork and a cooperative spirit.
  • High tolerance to mental stress.
