Job Summary
We are seeking a reliable and experienced Security Captain to lead and supervise a team of security officers in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our organization. The Security Captain will oversee the daily operations of the security team, ensuring compliance with security policies and responding to emergencies or incidents promptly and effectively.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise Security Team:
Lead and manage the security team, ensuring all team members perform duties in accordance with company policies and procedures. Provide direction, guidance, and support to security officers during their shifts. - Ensure Security Operations:
Oversee day‑to‑day security operations, ensuring proper coverage, security of property, assets, personnel and visitors. Respond to incidents, disturbances or security breaches swiftly and efficiently. - Incident Management:
Take charge during emergencies or security‑related incidents, making critical decisions, coordinating with emergency services, and ensuring safety of all personnel. - Training and Development:
Train and mentor new security personnel, conduct regular drills, security awareness sessions and performance evaluations. - Report and Documentation:
Maintain accurate records of incidents, shift logs, daily activities. Write detailed incident reports and assist management or law enforcement as needed. - Inspect Security Equipment:
Ensure all security equipment (e.g., surveillance cameras, access control systems, alarms) operates properly and report issues promptly. - Monitor and Evaluate:
Conduct periodic security audits and patrols to identify vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with protocols, and recommend improvements. - Liaise with Management:
Maintain communication with senior management, provide regular updates on security issues, staffing and performance. Assist in developing and implementing policies. - Enforce Security Policies:
Ensure all policies, procedures, safety guidelines and company rules are adhered to. - Customer Service:
Interact professionally with employees, visitors and clients, providing assistance and addressing concerns while maintaining a customer‑friendly demeanor. - Schedule Coordination:
Assist with scheduling security shifts, ensuring adequate staffing levels and addressing absenteeism or coverage gaps.
- Functions as a supervisor of Security Officers, Lead Officers and other personnel at client sites; ensure post orders are followed, rounds are completed, reports filed and authorities and client are notified in emergencies.
- Coaches and disciplines personnel as appropriate; documents actions.
- Trains personnel; reviews post orders and assignments.
- Assists in submission of payroll and personnel data to the company.
- Ensures adequate coverage of all posts and positions in conjunction with management.
- Prepares, files and submits required reports.
- Inspects posts, meets with subordinates to outline tasks.
- Meets with client representatives to assure requirements are met and provide quality service.
- Carries out supervisory duties such as interviewing, orienting, training, planning, assigning, performance appraisal, disciplining, hiring/termination recommendations in compliance with laws.
- May perform duties of a Security Officer in accordance with post orders and policy.
High School Diploma or G.E.D. and 2 years of related experience
, or an equivalent combination sufficient to perform essential functions. Minimum 2 years of retail experience preferred.
- May be required to hold applicable state, county or municipal license for Security Officers.
- Knowledge of security operations with emphasis on patrol, inspection and response services.
- Knowledge of supervisory practices and procedures.
- Ability to provide positive direction and motivate performance.
- Understanding of variety of security and safety devices and controls.
- Ability to learn quickly and carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagrammatic form.
- Ability to track and maintain schedule assignments.
- Effective team member and maintain professional composure in unusual circumstances.
