Overview
The Quality Supervisor is responsible for supervising and coordinating day-to-day quality operations on the production floor to support safe, efficient, and standardized manufacturing processes. Reporting to the QA team lead, this role provides direct leadership to Quality Operators while supporting Engineering by ensuring quality requirements, process changes, and standards are properly communicated, understood, and executed at the line level. The Quality Supervisor serves as the primary liaison between Engineering and the quality workforce, focusing on people management, execution, compliance, and communication.
- Supervise, organize, and coordinate quality teamwork assignments across multiple production lines and shifts, scheduling around breaks, vacations, audits, changeovers, and absenteeism
- Provide direct supervision of QA Inspectors and Crew Leaders, including coaching, performance management, attendance management, conflict resolution, and disciplinary escalation
- Conduct formal performance evaluations, development planning, and succession planning for QA Inspectors and Crew Leaders as per the engineering instruction/standard
- Establish expectations, accountability, and consistency in execution across all shifts
- Own and maintain QA execution of Engineering-defined quality systems, inspection strategies, and verification processes
- Maintain oversight of quality records, logs, and documentation to ensure compliance with internal, customer, and regulatory requirements
- Ensure quality procedures, SOPs, and documentation standards are clearly defined, controlled, and consistently followed
- Ensure quality training is completed as defined by Engineering and Quality Management; track training completion, assess operator competency, and align assignments accordingly
- Utilize QA Crew Leaders to support hands-on training while retaining accountability for training effectiveness and coverage
- Escalate abnormal trends and systemic issues to Engineering and Quality Leadership with data-supported insights
- Serve as the primary escalation point between Engineering, Production Supervisors, and the QA organization
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of quality work areas in accordance with 5S3R standards:
- Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain
- Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container
- Oversee tracking and disposition of non-conforming material in accordance with Engineering- and Quality-approved procedures
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and development discussions for Quality Operators
- Support Engineering by deploying process changes, quality alerts, and updated SOPs to the quality team and verifying perception and execution
- Ensure inspections, checks, audits, and documentation are completed consistently, accurately, and on time by Quality Operators
- Review shift quality data, logs, and reports; escalate abnormal trends, recurring issues, or execution gaps to Engineering for direction
- Lead initial containment and communication of quality issues per established procedures while deferring root cause ownership and technical resolution to Engineering
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits by coordinating Quality Operator participation and ensuring readiness of assigned areas
- Conduct Layered Process Audits in assigned areas to verify compliance with established standards
- Monitor quality performance metrics across assigned lines (KPIs, defect rates, scrap, rework, yield) and report results to Engineering and Quality leadership
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in operations, Management or related field or equivalent, relevant experience
- 5+ years of manufacturing or quality-related experience required
- 2+ years of experience supervising or leading hourly employees in a manufacturing or quality environment required
- Experience working in automated, high-volume, or regulated manufacturing environments preferred
- Microsoft Office Suite
