Job Summary

As the Extrusion & Machining Technician, you will be responsible for supporting manufacturing operations by operating and troubleshooting HDPE extrusion lines and CNC machining equipment. This role is responsible for producing high‑quality components safely, efficiently, and within specification while maintaining production and quality standards. To ensure success in this role, you should possess strong mechanical aptitude, a solid understanding of HDPE extrusion and/or CNC machining processes, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions.

You should be comfortable using precision measurement tools, capable of troubleshooting equipment and process issues, and committed to maintaining safety, quality, and productivity standards. Proficiency in documenting production data accurately and communicating effectively with supervisors and cross‑functional teams is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set up, start up, operate, and shut down HDPE extrusion equipment and CNC mills and/or lathes in accordance with work orders, prints, and production schedules.
  • Perform die, tooling, and program changeovers; verify correct materials, tooling, fixturing, and program requirements prior to production.
  • Monitor and adjust processing parameters including temperature zones, pressure, line speed, cooling systems, tool wear offsets, and machine performance to ensure consistent quality output.
  • Troubleshoot production issues including dimensional variation, surface defects, contamination, tool wear, chatter, and other equipment‑related concerns.
  • Conduct in‑process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measurement tools to verify compliance with specifications.
  • Record machine settings, inspection results, scrap, downtime, and corrective actions accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform tool changes, offset adjustments, deburring, and finishing of parts to meet quality standards.
  • Assist with minor preventive maintenance including cleaning, lubrication checks, and general equipment upkeep.
  • Follow all safety procedures including proper PPE use, machine guarding, and lockout/tagout protocols.
  • Maintain organized and clean work areas in accordance with 5S standards.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, Quality Assurance, and maintenance regarding production priorities, issues, and corrective actions.
  • Support cross‑training efforts and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and scrap reduction.

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training in plastics processing, machining, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Experience in HDPE extrusion and/or CNC machining.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, and material handling.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs (with assistance as needed).
  • Ability to work around moving equipment, heat, and noise.
