Overview

The Site Manager is responsible for leading and managing the Hartwell site, including mica mining operations, separation plant, manufacturing plants (North and South), and the warehouse serving as a global supply point. The role establishes and executes the site vision and strategic plans aligned with business objectives. This position holds full accountability for operational performance, safety compliance (including MSHA), financial results (earnings and cash), long-term reserve planning, capital allocation, and organizational effectiveness.

The Site Manager drives a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement while partnering with global and cross-functional stakeholders to meet customer and business requirements.

Responsibilities Talent Management
  • Lead, develop, and retain site leadership and workforce.
  • Drive organizational design, succession planning, and bench strength.
  • Coach and develop direct reports to ensure accountability and performance.
  • Foster a culture of engagement, empowerment, and continuous improvement.
  • Promote and sustain a Zero-Incident Mindset.
Environmental, Health, Safety, Security & Sustainability (EHSSS)
  • Accountable for full site compliance with federal, state, local, and corporate EHSSS requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with MSHA regulations governing mining operations.
  • Develop and implement systems that drive continuous improvement in safety performance and culture.
  • Lead behavioral and cultural initiatives to advance injury-free operations.
Production & Operations
  • Develop and execute the Annual Operating Plan for:
    • Hartwell Manufacturing Plants (North and South)
    • Mica Separation Plant
    • Georgia Mica Mining Operations (1,200 acres)
  • Balance mica mining output with downstream captive site requirements in North Charleston, SC and Peekskill, NY.
  • Optimize production strategy to deliver sustainable, lowest-cost solutions.
  • Accountable for site operating results (earnings and cash performance).
  • Serve on the Color Materials North America Operations Leadership Team.
  • Participate in corporate initiatives and special projects as required.
Mining Strategy
  • Develop and implement long-term mica mining strategy.
  • Secure and sustainably manage mica reserves to support a 20-year supply horizon.
Quality
  • Ensure effective management and continuous improvement of quality systems.
  • Maintain certifications including ISO, RSPO, and Halal.
  • Collaborate with downstream manufacturing sites to strengthen quality performance and feedback loops.
Global Supply Point & Warehouse
  • Oversee warehouse operations serving domestic and export customers.
  • Ensure inventory accuracy, cost control, and delivery reliability.
Maintenance
  • Ensure effective value-based maintenance systems.
  • Optimize contractor utilization, technical materials, and site reliability.
Engineering & Capital
  • Oversee process and project engineering resources.
  • Review and approve capital expenditures.
  • Ensure efficient execution of capital projects aligned with strategic priorities.
Required Education & Experience
  • 15+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership experience across multiple departments.
  • Minimum 10 years of managerial experience with direct reports.
  • Minimum 5 years serving on a site leadership team.
  • Prior Plant or Operations Manager experience required.
  • Proven track record delivering results in EHS, cost reduction, quality improvement, asset optimization, cycle time reduction, and capital project execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large teams, drive cultural transformation, manage employee relations, and build organizational capability.
  • Strong analytical and financial acumen; ability to interpret complex technical, operational, and financial data.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or Business/Management.
