Job Summary

The Scheduling Coordinator – Surgery is responsible for managing surgical scheduling and patient access functions to ensure smooth and efficient workflow in the surgical department. This role serves as the main point of contact for patients, surgeons, and staff regarding appointment scheduling, pre-operative instructions, and insurance verification, supporting a seamless surgical experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Schedule surgical procedures and related appointments, coordinating with surgeons, nursing staff, and other departments
  • Confirm patient appointments and provide pre-operative instructions
  • Verify insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations as needed
  • Maintain accurate patient and procedure records in the EMR and scheduling systems
  • Communicate with surgeons’ offices and internal teams to resolve scheduling conflicts and optimize operating room utilization
  • Track cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows; update schedules accordingly
  • Prepare and distribute daily surgical schedules to relevant staff
  • Assist with patient inquiries, registration, and other patient access functions as needed
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
    Associate’s degree preferred
  • Experience in medical office scheduling, patient access, or surgical scheduling strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification processes
  • Strong organizational, multitasking, and communication skills
  • Proficiency with EMR systems and office software
