Core Night Shift Duties(11:00 PM to 7:00 AM caregiver)
1. Safety & MonitoringHourly Rounds: Quietly checking on residents/patients to ensure they are breathing comfortably and are safe in bed.
Fall Prevention: Monitoring high-risk individuals who may try to get up without assistance during the night.
Security: Ensuring all exits are locked and that the facility or home remains secure.
Incontinence Care: Checking and changing briefs or assisting with scheduled toileting to prevent skin breakdown (pressure sores).
Repositioning: Turning bedbound residents every 2 hours to ensure comfort and prevent bedsores.
Nighttime Support: Providing emotional support or a light snack for residents who suffer from "sun downing," insomnia, or anxiety.
Sanitization: Deep cleaning common areas, wiping down high-touch surfaces, and organizing supplies.
Laundry: Washing, drying, and folding linens and residents' clothing.
Morning Prep: Setting the table for breakfast and setting out clothes for the day shift.
Care Tracking: Documenting any incidents, sleep patterns, or behavioral changes that occurred during the night.
Shift Handover: Giving a detailed verbal report to the 7:00 AM oncoming staff regarding any concerns or medication needs.
