Unit Secretary/Nurse Support Tech Ortho Nights Full Time

Position Overview: Under the direction of unit management, the Unit Secretary/Nurse Support Tech (US/NST) performs unit functions, manages supplies, answers telephones, and assists with patient care under the supervision of the RN. The NST anticipates patient needs within their scope of practice, reports and documents patient data, and participates in orientation of new personnel.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in patient care by requesting, charting, and recording patient data accurately and timely.
  • Transcribe physician orders accurately; assist with patient admission, transfer, and discharge processes.
  • Assist with unit orientation and ongoing education of staff and students.
  • Maintain organized work environment and optimal inventory supplies.
  • Provide secretarial support including data entry, faxing, copying, scheduling, and charting.
  • Ensure personal competency and mandatory training are up-to-date.
  • Document patient data accurately and report to RN any pertinent changes.
  • Perform ancillary testing such as finger sticks and oxygen setups.
  • Perform patient rounds, maintain room cleanliness, and monitor high fall risk patients.
  • Follow health standards related to safety, risk management, and infection control.

Qualifications:

  • Medical experience required; hospital experience preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; CNA preferred.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Organizational skills required.
  • Current BLS certification required.
