OverviewDirect Care Worker II - Behavioral Stabilization Unit - Full and Part Time Positions - Continuous Posting - ( ). The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) seeks caring and compassionate applicants for the role of Direct Care Worker II (DCW II) within the Stabilization Program, who are committed to building meaningful relationships and providing outstanding care and service. The Emergency Stabilization Program is a constantly changing environment serving individuals in crisis with a wide variety of complex support needs, many with violent and extreme behaviors.
The Direct Care Worker II position provides oversight and direct services to individuals with developmental disabilities. This is accomplished by providing an environment consistent with participants needs in daily living and those skills necessary for community life. This is an excellent opportunity for potential candidates who are interested in furthering their career within DDS.

- Assist individuals in meeting his/her personal care and nutritional needs;
- Assist and support individuals in making choices in his/her life;
- Maintain individuals’ rights by complying with applicable laws and regulations;
- Provide leisure activities; may drive individuals to work, appointments, and to recreational activities;
- Advocate for the individuals and demonstrate respect and positive regard for individuals with developmental disabilities;
- Oversee the health and safety of the individuals by administering medications;
- Provide supports to individuals on behavioral unit who exhibit challenging and extreme behaviors;
- Monitor the health and safety of the individuals, adhere to rules and regulations, and communicate with appropriate nursing and DSW supervisors regarding health concerns;
- Complete daily reports and collect information necessary to document incidents that occur during the shift.
- Employees applying for this assignment will be required to successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) within 6 months to be eligible for the position. Staff that is unable to complete the training will be ineligible for the assignment. This posting requires interested candidates including current employees in the same title to go through the interview process as this position requires specialized training.
- Minimum Entrance Requirements:
Applicants must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in providing direct support services to persons with developmental/intellectual, emotional or physical disabilities, or an equivalent combination of required experience and substitutions. - Substitutions:
An Associate’s degree or higher with a major in a human services field may be substituted for the required experience. - Incumbents must possess a current and valid motor vehicle driver’s license at a class level specific to assignment.
Salary placement is determined by a combination of factors, including experience and education, and is subject to the Human Resources Division’s Hiring Guidelines. For bargaining unit positions, compensation follows the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

DDS serves over 43,000 individuals and manages a large budget and staff. Education, licensure and certifications will be verified according to HR guidelines. All employees are paid on a bi-weekly basis and must have direct deposit.
