Location: Berrien Campus
Department: BER - CLINICAL LAB
Schedule: PRN, Varied Hours/Shift, Weekday nights, Weekend nights
Responsible for quality performance and reporting of analyses of technical procedures for the benefit of optimal patient care within the limits of laboratory policy and procedures according to FDA, JCAHO, CAP, STATE, AABB, OSHA regulations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Meet one of the following requirements: earned a doctoral, master's or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution; or have education and training equivalent to that specified by CLIA that includes at least 60 semester hours, with appropriate laboratory science coursework and completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved by a recognized accrediting body.
- Must be certified with a recognized Medical Technologist certifying agency such as ASCP, AMT, HHS/HEW, AAB, or others as an MT. Those who meet CLIA high complexity requirements but are not yet certified will have 1 year post‑hire to obtain certification. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide appropriate care for patients of all ages in their assigned area.
Must have normal color vision.
Modern hospital laboratory. Work activities include light lifting (≤25 lbs), walking, sitting, standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and pushing objects. Must operate office equipment and computerized lab equipment. Exposure to blood and body fluids, hazardous chemicals, and radiation. Must use PPE and follow safety data sheet procedures. Complies with biohazard/radiation safety standards and laboratory policies.
