Position
:
Probation and Parole Officer – supervise and investigate criminal offenders through probation, parole, and pardon assignments within the district office.

Experience requirements:

  • Three years of experience in corrections or law enforcement; OR
  • Three years of continuous active military duty (all Military Occupational Specialties apply); OR
  • Six years of full-time experience in any field; OR
  • A bachelor’s degree.

Experience Substitution
:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university qualifies as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience. Maximum substitution: 120 semester hours (up to four years).

Necessary Special Requirements
:

  • Disqualifications may apply for misdemeanor domestic violence or felony convictions.
  • Possession of a current Louisiana driver’s license.
  • Position requires handling and carrying firearms.
  • Willingness to attain Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.

Job Duties
:

  • Supervise felony and misdemeanor offenders through counseling, enforcement of supervision conditions, referrals to community resources, crisis intervention, and placement in appropriate programs.
  • Conduct criminal justice social background investigations and prepare reports for courts, boards, and decision-makers.
  • Enforce supervision violations, including arrests, transport, documentation, and participation in hearings.
  • Administer offender accountability: restitution, supervision fees, fines, and court costs; establish payment schedules; disburse funds to victims/agencies.
  • Perform security and compliance functions: drug testing, defensive tactics when necessary, supervise community service, ensure ACA standards.
  • Oversee audits and disciplinary hearings for inmates in Community Rehabilitation Centers (CRCs).

  • Appointment Type
    :
    Probational or Promotion of a permanent, classified employee of the Louisiana State Government.
  • Current permanent status may be required to accept a probational appointment.
  • Promotion may require a trial detail prior to permanent promotion.
  • The posting may be used for temporary appointment; if filled temporarily, conversion to probational may occur upon permanent hire.
