Electrical Engineer – Manufacturing & Controls
Are you passionate about designing, improving, and future-proofing complex electrical systems in a manufacturing environment? This is an opportunity to play a key role in a major capital investment project (~$100M) focused on modernizing plant-wide PLC and controls systems.
You’ll work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, and IT, helping drive large-scale system integration and long-term operational reliability.
What You’ll Do
Lead Major Systems Upgrades
- Support a company-wide overhaul of PLC and electrical control systems as part of a large capital project
- Collaborate closely with IT and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless controls integration across the facility
Design & Improve Electrical Systems
- Design, develop, and enhance large-scale electrical systems and machinery used in manufacturing and power distribution
- Modify and optimize control systems to improve machine reliability, safety, and productivity
System Integration & Optimization
- Ensure PLC, sensor, motion control, and servo systems are properly integrated into production processes
- Partner with engineering, maintenance, and production teams to drive process improvements and system performance
Project & Vendor Coordination
- Lead and support engineering projects from concept through implementation
- Work with vendors and contractors on equipment selection, system upgrades, and technical solutions (programming may be vendor-led, but you will oversee integration and functionality)
Testing, Validation & Reliability
- Oversee testing, installation, and validation of electrical and control systems
- Develop procedures and support teams in system commissioning and performance verification
- Analyze system performance data and recommend improvements to prevent failures and increase reliability
Technical Evaluation & Planning
- Review equipment proposals, specifications, and technical documentation for feasibility and performance
- Use engineering tools, CAD software, and data analysis to forecast equipment capability and support long-term manufacturing goals
What You Bring
- Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles, industrial controls, and automation
- Proven experience working in manufacturing environments with complex, integrated systems
- Ability to collaborate across departments including operations, maintenance, engineering, vendors, and IT
- A proactive, solutions-focused mindset with a strong emphasis on safety, reliability, and continuous improvement
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced, technical settings
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) – required
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Experience supporting or leading large capital projects involving plant-wide system upgrades
- Hands-on experience with PLC-integrated systems (beyond basic maintenance or robotics-only roles)
- Strong understanding of controls integration, sensors, and process improvement
Technical Skills
- Advanced troubleshooting of electrical and electro-mechanical systems down to the component level
- Experience designing or modifying electrical control systems
- Strong working knowledge of PLCs, motion control, and servo systems
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot complex PLC and servo programs (direct programming may be vendor-led)
- Familiarity with Mitsubishi PLCs is highly preferred
- System calibration and performance optimization
- Experience supporting PLC hardware diagnostics and repairs
- Proficient with CAD and engineering software tools
Additional Expectations
- Strong project leadership and organizational skills
- Experience coordinating with external vendors and contractors
- Willingness to support operations outside standard hours (nights/weekends/holidays) when required for critical project or production needs
