Amentum is looking for an Electrical Systems Operator to join our team.
Essential Responsibilities:
The Electrical Systems Operator is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of electrical systems, focusing on reliability and compliance with safety standards. Primary duties include:
* System Monitoring & Operation:
* Operate and monitor the performance of electrical distribution systems, including substations, transformers, circuit breakers, switch gear, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
* Monitor and control electrical systems for major facilities using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) or similar systems.
* Manage power generation equipment to ensure a continuous and efficient power supply.
* Preventative Maintenance & Inspections:
* Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues in electrical components and systems.
* Perform preventative maintenance tasks to maximize system reliability and minimize disruption.
* Troubleshooting & Emergency Response:
* Diagnose and troubleshoot issues in electrical systems, including UPS, generators, and other critical infrastructure.
* Respond rapidly to system alarms, outages, and emergencies to isolate problems and restore power effectively.
* Execute safe switching procedures, adhering to lockout/tagout (LOTO) and other safety protocols.
* Safety & Compliance:
* Follow strict compliance with electrical safety standards, including National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E.
* Proactively participate in safety drills, evaluations, and training to mitigate risks associated with high-voltage work environments.
* Technical Documentation & Reporting:
* Maintain accurate logs and detailed records of system operations, failures, inspections, and maintenance activities.
* Update and review operational schematics, diagrams, and system documentation to reflect any changes.
* Coordination & Communication:
* Work closely with engineers, technicians, and maintenance personnel to resolve issues and maintain operational integrity.
* Relay system status, concerns, and priority updates to supervisors and stakeholders. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to:
* Moving mechanical parts, energized equipment, and high-voltage systems.
* External environmental conditions, including wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, and poor weather conditions.
* High, precarious places, and the risk of electrical shock. The position requires:
* Frequent walking; use of hands to finger, handle, or feel; reaching with hands and arms; talking or hearing; and occasionally tasting or smelling (as part of safety protocols).
* Climbing ladders, scaffolding, and platforms, and standing, bending, and working in tight or confined areas.
* Lifting and carrying tools or equipment that may weigh over 40 pounds. Vision abilities required for this role include:
* Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Noise levels in the work environment are generally moderate but may occasionally reach high levels, requiring appropriate hearing protection.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Comprehensive knowledge of electrical systems, including high-voltage power distribution, transformers, circuit breakers, and control systems.
* Strong troubleshooting skills and familiarity with diagnostic tools for electrical components.
* Extensive knowledge of hand and power tools required for electrical repair and troubleshooting.
* Familiarity with codes, standards, and best practices, including the National Electrical Code (NEC) and NFPA 70E.
* Ability to perform mathematical functions necessary for understanding power loads, voltages, and system performance calculations.
Clearance Required:
TS/SCI with Poly
Minimum Education:
High School diploma or equivalent Minimum Years of
Experience:
* Ten (10) years of experience in electrical distribution systems, including a minimum of two (2) years controlling and monitoring major facility systems (UPS, power generation, and SCADA). Required
Certifications:

* Journeyman or equivalent
Preferred Qualifications:
* Associate Degree or Technical Certificate in Electrical Systems, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field.
* Completion of an accredited apprenticeship program in electrical systems.
* Experience in managing electrical systems in mission-critical facilities, government installations, or secure environments.
* Familiarity with renewable energy systems or microgrid operations.
* Additional specialized training or certifications, such as NETA (Inter National Electrical Testing Association) certification. Compensation Details:
