Title:

Art Teacher

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the Principal, to provide effective instruction in visual arts aligned to district curriculum and Georgia Standards of Excellence; to develop students' artistic skills, creativity, and aesthetic understanding; to manage an optimal and safe learning environment; and to communicate student progress, expectations, and goals to students, parents, and administrators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Teach visual arts-including drawing, painting, design, crafts, and related disciplines-following district curriculum, Board-approved courses of study, and state standards.

Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into meaningful and engaging learning experiences.

Provide instruction that builds students' artistic techniques, creative expression, critical thinking, and aesthetic judgment.

Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning and adjust instruction to meet individual needs, including students with disabilities, in compliance with IDEA and Section 504.

Deliver whole-group, small-group, and individual instruction as needed.

Demonstrate artistic techniques using standard and teacher-developed instructional aids.

Organize class time to support a balanced program of demonstration, guided practice, and independent work.

Instruct students in the safe and proper use and care of tools, materials, and equipment used in art classes.

Evaluate student performance and progress and prepare required grades and reports.

Plan and present art displays, exhibitions, and showcases of student work for school and community audiences.

Maintain professional competence through ongoing learning, workshops, conferences, and professional development.

Maintain accurate and complete student records, grades, attendance, inventories, and documentation as required by district procedures and by federal and state law.

Promote effective communication with students and parents and encourage parental involvement.

Maintain classroom behavior expectations that align with district and school policies, ensuring a safe and productive learning environment.

Collaborate with colleagues, participate in faculty meetings and committees, and support school wide initiatives.

Select, requisition, and inventory materials, supplies, equipment, and instructional resources.

Follow all federal and state laws, GaPSC ethics rules, and School Board policies.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee.

Equipment:
Uses standard office equipment (computer, printer, copier, telephone) and art-specific tools, media, and instructional materials required for visual arts instruction.

Travel Requirements:
Travel to school district buildings, professional meetings, and events as required.

Knowledge of art content, techniques, media, curriculum, and related concepts.

Knowledge of federal and state laws related to education and students.

Ability to use computers, instructional technology, and district software applications.

Ability to reflect on professional practice and pursue continuous improvement.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and community partners.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:
Works in standard classroom and school environments; must be able to lift and move materials and equipment commonly used in art instruction.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Certification/License:

Valid Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC) certification in Art Education (P-12) or eligibility for certification.

Must meet all requirements of O.C.G.A. § 20-2-200 and applicable GaPSC rules.

Valid driver's license or ability to provide transportation.

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Art Education or a related field required.

Master's degree preferred.

Experience:

Prior successful teaching experience in the appropriate grade level or content area preferred.
