Position Purpose
  • Develop students' knowledge and understanding of world cultures and cultural evolution; research of social orders; and understand the influence of geographical, historical, cultural and political factors on societies, socio‑economic systems and political systems.
  • Foster appreciation of world cultures, languages, racial, ethnic and religious groups, and political systems.
Essential Functions
  • Develop and administer social studies curriculum consistent with district goals.
  • Create lesson plans and instructional materials that organize unit learning around historical problems and maximize instructional time.
  • Teach social studies integrating history, geography, economics, political science, systems of government, education, responsible citizenship, and humanities.
  • Develop students' understanding of racial, ethnic, religious and political groups, socio‑economic status, and their impact on human rights and freedom.
  • Encourage critical analysis of media’s influence on information flow and public discourse.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and adjust instruction for individual and diverse‑needs students, including special‑needs support.
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge through seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or independent research.
  • Maintain accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities in accordance with district procedures and applicable laws.
  • Facilitate parental involvement and effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure student conduct aligns with school standards and district policies, establishing a functional learning atmosphere.
  • Collaborate with grade‑level and other staff; participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate instructional books, aids, supplies, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
Additional Duties
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or other central office administrators.

Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
  • Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
  • In‑depth knowledge of world history and related disciplines: geography, sociology, economics, political science, systems of government, education, responsible citizenship, anthropology, and humanities.
  • Understanding of humanity’s major problems and historical approaches to solutions.
  • Proficiency in data information systems, data analysis, and action‑plan formulation.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal and state educational laws.
  • Computer network system and software application proficiency.
  • Organizational and coordination skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication with students and parents.
  • Self‑evaluation and commitment to professional growth.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Qualifications Profile
  • Certification/License:
    Georgia State Certification as a Social Studies Teacher.
  • Motor Vehicle Operator’s License or ability to provide personal transportation.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
Experience
  • Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
