Central Office Staff, Directors, Principals, and Secretaries as assigned by the Superintendent

PURPOSE:
The Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Student Achievement provides system-level leadership to ensure high levels of learning, growth, and well-being for all middle and high school students. This role oversees secondary instructional programs, school leadership, curriculum, assessment, professional learning, student discipline, and student support systems in alignment with the district's mission, strategic priorities, and Portrait of a Graduate.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION:
Master's Degree or higher in Educational Leadership
Hold a Master's Level or higher Georgia Leadership Certification in Educational Leadership
EXPERIENCE:
Three or more years of experience as a Middle or High School Principal.
Minimum of five years of experience in administration or curriculum development at the system or local school level.
Five years of successful experience as an educator in a school setting (teacher, counselor, media specialist).
Additional administrative experience at all secondary levels (middle and high) is preferred.
Central office experience is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE &
SKILLS:
Extensive knowledge of child development and growth, curriculum and instruction, curriculum development, evaluation, staff development design and delivery models, deeper learning strategies, academic support services, and effective school and system leadership principles and practices.
Extensive knowledge of Board policies, procedures, rules, and practices at the state and local levels.
Ability to develop and administer the budget process, grants, and major projects or programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as acting Superintendent in the absence of the Superintendent.
Attends all Board meetings and prepares reports as requested by the Superintendent.
Prepares and disseminates approved Board of Education policies and procedures.
Interprets the Board's policies and procedures for employees and the public.
Maintains effective communication with stakeholders relative to all matters and program operations.
Resolves conflicts and/or misunderstandings between homes and schools in collaboration with the responsible principal and/or staff member.
Assists in assessing, planning, developing, and implementing short- and long-term system goals and collaboratively works with schools to accomplish and support the system's mission.
Assists with system budget oversight, including planning, review, and consideration for improvements.
Coordinates student projections and enrollment, along with resulting personnel allocations.
Assists with school space needs, facilities planning, site identification, construction, and school zoning and boundary changes.
Provides leadership in the student discipline program.
Serves as liaison for academic issues.
Supervises planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of all secondary schools' instructional programs, academic courses, and programs.
Supervises and supports the evaluation of building principals.
Coordinates the selection of textbooks and instructional materials for secondary grades through the use of committees.
Assists principals in the selection of candidates during the hiring process
Supports principals with monitoring the effectiveness of school improvement plans and school improvement teams
Works collaboratively with principals, school psychologists, and special services to support individual student needs.
Coordinates monthly principal/staff meetings
Coordinate Impact Checks & State of the Schools Addresses
Provides administrators with annual training and ongoing support for the teacher and leadership evaluation programs.
Assists in the system's strategic planning process.
Conducts student disciplinary hearings individually and with school board panels as required by Georgia law.
Maintains effective communication with the Superintendent and staff relative to instructional matters and program operations.
Safety & Culture of Well-being strategic plan goal area support
Wellness Committee Co-Chair
Coordinates and/or supervises programs and activities as assigned
Serve as the District's lead for Title IX Coordinator and ensure all staff are trained annually, and provide guidance to district and school staff as needed
Exhibits a courteous and professional attitude at all times in dealing with the Board of Education, school administration, fellow employees, parents, students, and the public
Ability to be present at the physical worksite. Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work at the assigned location
Maintains confidentiality and professionalism regarding students and school system affairs
