Pay Scale: Teacher

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s Degree with Master’s Degree preferred; S4 or S5 certificate. Any exception will be left to the discretion of the Board of Education.

Experience: Experience working with children on speech skills.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Written and oral communication skills; student management; supervisory and leadership skills; ability to employ a variety of instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners; manage multiple tasks; ability to interpret and analyze test data.

Primary Function

To provide appropriate learning experience and educational opportunities based on knowledge of each child and their special needs in order to maximize development of their abilities.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Follows professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students’ records, parents, and colleagues.
  • Interacts in a professional manner with students and parents.
  • Is available to students and parents for conferences.
  • Facilitates home-school communication by such means as holding conferences, telephoning and sending written communications.
  • Maintains confidentiality of students and students’ records.
  • Works cooperatively with school administrators, colleagues, and parents.
  • Models correct use of oral and written language.
  • Demonstrates and maintains current knowledge of speech-language pathology.
  • Assigns reasonable tasks and homework to students.
  • Provides direct, researched-based application of speech-language therapies to identified students.
  • Complies with school system and state administration regulations and Board of Education policies.
  • Follows prepared work schedules for therapy and non-therapy activities.
  • Adheres to established SLP building and location schedule (itinerant SLPs).
  • Enforces regulations concerning student conduct and discipline.
  • Is punctual.
  • Maintains lesson plans as required by school policy of SLPs.
  • Adheres to school policy regarding SLP absences.
  • Implements individualized education program or designated curriculum.
  • Maintains accurate, complete and appropriate records and files reports promptly.
  • Attends and participates in assigned meetings (staffing, etc.) and faculty meetings according to school policy.
  • Complies with conditions as stated in contract.
  • Follows federal, state and local policies; guidelines and regulations in identifying and delivering services to speech and language disordered students.
  • Acts in a professional manner and assumes responsibility for the total school program, its safety and good order.
  • Takes precautions to protect records, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for supervising students in their care.
  • Conducts speech/language screenings and evaluations.
  • Performs assigned duties during pre-school registration.
  • Supervises Communications Aide, when appropriate.
  • Serves as a member/consultant of the Student Support Team/RTI Team.
  • Implements goals targeting eligibility services on student’s individual education plans.
  • Follows due-process requirements for speech/language referrals.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal and/or Director of Special Education.
