Overview

Position Title:

Student and Young Adult Resident

Reports To:

Student Pastor and Executive Pastor

Position Type:
Full or part-time (stipend + housing) beginning early May.

Purpose Statement:
The Student and Young Adult Resident/Intern supports Lakeside’s mission of helping people move from where they are to where God wants them to be by assisting with ministry to middle and high school students as well as college-age and young adults. This role provides hands-on ministry experience in teaching, discipleship, leadership development, and administration under the coaching of Lakeside staff.

Key Responsibilities
Student Ministry Support
  • Assist the Student Pastor with weekly student gatherings, including setup, games, worship support, and small group environments.
  • Help develop and implement biblically based teaching, discussion questions, and creative elements for middle and high school programming.
  • Support planning and execution of student events such as retreats, camps, conferences, and outreach or fellowship activities.
  • Build relationships with students through presence at weekly programming, one-on-one conversations, and attendance at occasional school or community events.
Young Adult Ministry Support
  • Creating welcoming environments and gatherings for college-age and young adult groups (small groups, studies, or social events).
  • Help recruit, connect, and follow up with young adults to encourage consistent participation and next steps in discipleship.
  • Contribute to content development for young adult discussions, studies, and leader resources as directed.
Discipleship and Groups
  • Help facilitate discipleship groups or small groups for students and/or young adults, modeling Christ-centered community and accountability.
  • Assist with leader development by supporting training events, resourcing small group leaders, and providing encouragement and follow-up.
  • Promote serving opportunities and help students and young adults engage in churchwide and local outreach initiatives.
Administration and Communication
  • Support event logistics including registrations, rosters, transportation details, and basic trip organization.
  • Assist with digital communication (texts, emails, social media posts) to students, parents, and young adults under staff direction.
  • Help maintain accurate attendance, contact information, and follow-up notes in Planning Center or other church systems.
General Ministry Support
  • Participate in staff meetings and Next Gen/discipleship planning sessions as appropriate for development.
  • Assist with occasional churchwide events, setup, and hospitality to support the broader mission and team.
Key Relationships
  • Student Pastor:
    Provides direct supervision, coaching, and weekly ministry oversight.
  • Executive Pastor of Discipleship:
    Offers guidance in discipleship philosophy, small groups, and leadership development.
  • Student and Young Adult Volunteers:
    Partners with and supports leaders in creating healthy, engaging environments.
  • Students, Young Adults, and Parents:
    Builds relational connections that encourage spiritual growth and involvement.
Skills and Competencies
  • Spiritual:
    Growing relationship with Jesus Christ; desire to pursue a call to ministry, especially Next Gen or discipleship.
  • Leadership:
    Emerging leadership skills with a willingness to learn how to lead groups, organize events, and influence culture.
  • Relational:
    Approachable, teachable, and genuine in interacting with students, young adults, parents, and volunteers.
  • Teaching/Facilitation:
    Comfortable leading discussions, sharing testimonies, and assisting with teaching as directed.
  • Administrative/Technical:
    Basic organizational skills; willingness to learn tools such as Planning Center, Pro Presenter, Canva, and common office software.
Spiritual and Personal Qualifications
  • Agreement with Lakeside’s mission, vision, values, and doctrine.
  • Active participation in the life and community of Lakeside Church during the residency/internship.
  • Demonstrated character, integrity, and a lifestyle consistent with biblical standards.
  • Humble, teachable, and eager to grow through feedback, mentoring, and hands-on ministry experience.
Success Measures (Residency Term)
  • Demonstrated growth in spiritual maturity, ministry skills, and understanding of student and young adult discipleship.
  • Consistent, reliable support of weekly programming and special events, with positive feedback from staff and volunteers.
  • Increasing engagement and connection among a core group of students and/or young adults influenced through this role.
  • Clear next steps identified for future ministry involvement or calling at the end of the residency term.
