OVERALL
PURPOSE:
To contribute to the successful achievement of the Social Circle City School District's mission and major system priorities by providing leadership to the school counseling program, to the social worker, and to the strategic goal area of cultivating community engagement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Master's Degree or higher in counseling, social work, or related field. (Required)
Hold or be eligible for a Georgia Certificate in Educational Leadership. (Preferred)
Experience
Three or more years of experience in school counseling, social work, or a similar field is required.
Knowledge and experience in Behavioral Threat Assessments and Management
Demonstrated leadership and experience in effectively collaborating and communicating with families, community agencies, and external partners to support student services, family engagement, and district initiatives.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as may be appropriate and acceptable
KNOWLEDGE &
SKILLS:
Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, policies, and procedures related to student services, including school counseling, social work, foster care, student discipline, confidentiality, and mandated reporting.
Extensive knowledge of behavioral threat assessment and management processes, crisis response protocols, and trauma-informed practices.
Knowledge of child and adolescent development, mental health supports, and social-emotional learning frameworks.
Knowledge of effective family and community engagement strategies and interagency collaboration.
Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, with students, families, administrators, staff, and community partners.
Ability to resolve conflicts, manage sensitive situations, and exercise sound professional judgment.
Ability to analyze and use data related to student behavior, attendance, engagement, and support services to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and deliver professional learning for counseling, social work, and student support personnel.
Ability to collaborate effectively with school leaders and central office staff to support district priorities and student well-being.
Ability to manage multiple programs and initiatives while meeting timelines, maintaining documentation, and ensuring compliance.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & DUTIES:
Provides support to principals to ensure compliance in matters relating to social work, school counseling services, nurses, and the Student Advocacy Specialist.
Ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, and procedures as related to students in Foster Care.
Provides support and professional development to the district counseling services and outside contracted services, as needed.
Supports Out-of-District enrollment, including Newton County and Zone 5.
Serves as the United Way system representative
Represents the District on the Department of Family and Children's Services Board.
Coordinates Hospital-Homebound Services
Coordinates and monitors Crisis Response Team
Manages and monitors the District's Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management processes and procedures.
Coordinates Migrant Education Services
Coordinates the REACH GA Scholarship Program
Cultivating Community Engagement strategic plan goal area
Mentoring program
Faith-based community Member Liaison
Town Hall meetings
Performs other related duties, as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Student Achievement or Superintendent, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
WORK ENVIRONMENT &
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy by the Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Student Achievement.
