Black Studies is an interdisciplinary, collaborative department focused on the study of the African diaspora, the intellectual contributions of major Black scholars and cultural workers, and the crucial issues confronting people of African descent throughout the world. As a socially engaged department, Black Studies maintains a prominent and public-facing platform with robust programming for the college and Harlem community. The department is committed to increasing its course offerings to grow the major, minor, and accelerated master’s degree.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a diverse student population while maintaining an active agenda of scholarship and participating in student mentoring plus service activities in a large public university setting.
One of our nation’s greatest democratic experiments, The City College of New York was conceived in 1847 to educate “the children of the whole people.” Since its founding it has provided free or low-cost, high-quality education in a wide variety of disciplines, producing more Nobel laureates than any other public institution in the U.S. Set on a striking 35-acre hilltop campus in upper Manhattan, CCNY enrolls more than 16,000 students yearly who pursue degrees in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences;
the Bernard and Anne Spitzer School of Architecture; the School of Education; the Grove School of Engineering; the Sophie Davis School of Biomedical Education; and the Colin T. Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership.
Final date to receive applications:
February 26, 2026.
