Agriculture Teacher, Lee County Middle School East

Position Purpose
Under the general supervision of the Principal and CTAE Director, the Agriculture Teacher introduces students to foundational concepts in agricultural science and career pathways. The role focuses on developing students’ knowledge, curiosity, and skills in areas such as plant and animal science, agriscience, natural resources, and environmental stewardship. The teacher fosters problem‑solving skills, promotes hands‑on learning, and builds an engaging classroom environment that supports student growth and achievement.

Essential

Functions
  • Teach introductory knowledge and skills in one or more agricultural science pathways in alignment with Lee County School System (LCSS) curriculum standards.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that is safe, engaging, and conducive to active learning and small-group instruction.
  • Design and deliver lesson plans and activities that build sequential knowledge, encourage critical thinking, and maximize instructional time.
  • Integrate Future Farmers of America (FFA) experiences and other Career Technical Student Organization (CTSO) activities to develop leadership, teamwork, and career readiness.
  • Support and participate in fundraising activities that benefit agricultural education and CTAE programs.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with local and regional agricultural partners and organizations.
  • Provide instruction on the proper use and care of classroom tools, materials, equipment, plants, and animals.
  • Monitor and assess student progress regularly; adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including those of students with disabilities.
  • Encourage and facilitate parental involvement and maintain regular communication with families about student progress.
  • Promote positive student behavior and ensure adherence to school and district policies.
  • Collaborate with other teachers and staff on cross-curricular projects, planning, and school initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and assessments in compliance with LCSS policies and applicable laws.
  • Select and maintain instructional materials, classroom supplies, and equipment.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal, CTAE Director, or other district administrators.
Equipment
  • Operate standard classroom and office equipment (computers, projectors, printers, etc.) as well as equipment specific to agriculture education programs.
Travel Requirements
  • Travel to other schools, local agriculture sites, professional meetings, and student competitions as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of current instructional practices, including hands‑on and project-based learning strategies.
  • Understanding of middle-level education and adolescent learning needs.
  • Ability to design differentiated instruction and use data to guide instructional decisions.
  • Knowledge of state and federal education laws and student safety requirements.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with students, parents, staff, and community partners.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities.
Physical and Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a standard classroom, laboratory, and outdoor agricultural settings.
  • Must be able to lift and move materials, plants, and equipment as required for instruction and classroom activities.
Certification/License

Valid Georgia teaching certificate in Agriculture Education or eligibility for appropriate certification; valid driver’s license or ability to provide reliable transportation.

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture Education or a related field from an accredited college or university (required or preferred depending on district need).
Experience
  • Successful teaching experience preferred, especially at the middle school level.
