Location: Atlanta

Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's leading private liberal arts university, is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join the Finance Office. This position supports a variety of general accounting functions including accounts receivable, cash management, accounts payable, month-end close activities, and audit preparation. The Staff Accountant works collaboratively with departments across campus to support financial operations and ensure accuracy and compliance in financial reporting.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Support billing and receivable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related systems.
  • Research and resolve discrepancies in account balances, including tuition charges, fees, and payment activity.
  • Support cash receipt activities for the University, including posting and analysis of student payments, gifts, and other receipts.
  • Support accounts payable processes to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial transactions and related records.
  • Assist with month-end and fiscal year-end close processes, including preparation of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation and coordination of financial and operational reporting for internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  • Collaborate with departments across campus to address financial inquiries and support accurate and timely reporting.
  • Support internal control procedures and assist in identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and strengthen financial processes.
  • Participate in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field preferred and two to four years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with Sage Intacct and/or a student information system such as Ellucian Colleague preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit or higher-education accounting is a plus.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to analyze and manipulate financial data.
  • Strong working knowledge of accounting and reporting systems and enterprise database applications.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and exercise sound judgment.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines in a dynamic work environment.
