Job Summary
Reporting directly to the Medical Lieutenant, responsible for coordinating with the local mental health authority and providing person-centered case management of adults diagnosed with mental health disorders currently in custody of the county jail. Coordinates with the County Attorney’s office in involuntary medication hearings for inmates and facilitates the dissemination of pertinent medical records for court hearings.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee multiple medical orders for medications of inmates on compelled medications
- Coordinate with multiple agencies in the implementation of care
- Manage and maintain medical database associated with compelled medications
- Coordinate with outside forensic psychologists regarding competency and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity (NGRI) evaluations
- Coordinate and interact with jail psychologist in forced medication applications and ensure documentation to County Attorney’s office
- Coordinate and interface with mental health attorneys in the care of clients in county jail
- Coordinate with the Crisis Intervention Team and Local Mental Health Authority in dismiss and transfer of inmates to outside mental health facilities
- Communicate with Magistrate and District Judges regarding psychiatric patients in custody
- Participate in quarterly mental health round table and JBCR monthly meetings
- Review, track, and verify all inmates on 46B and 16:22 of the Code of Criminal Procedures
- Assist in annual budget process collaborating with department leadership regarding medication needs for psychiatric patients
- Perform purchasing coordination for the department (generate purchase requisitions, process invoices, manage supplier relationships, coordinate with chain of command)
- Initiate and cancel medication orders into Electronic Medical Record as needed
- Review, assess, and document information, coordinate implementation of treatment plans for better outcomes
- Generate Texas Uniform Health Status documentation for transferring/departing inmates as needed
- Attend all meetings and trainings as required

- Prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing, occasional lifting/carrying.
- Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and exertion of up to 25 pounds of force to move objects.
- Occasional contact with persons accused or convicted of crimes.
- Occasional contact with or proximity to emergency medical situations.
- Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, and high noise levels.
- Work may be outside normal office hours (Mon-Fri 8 a.m.
-5 p.m.) required. - May be deemed essential personnel in event of emergency.
- Regular attendance required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Criminal Justice, or related field.
- Basic knowledge of record keeping.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, scanning, faxing operations.
- Valid driver’s license (within thirty (30) days of employment).
- Qualified Mental Health Professional certification.
- Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths (CANS)/Adult Needs and Strengths Assessment (ANSA).
- Two (2) years of experience in providing crisis intervention, crisis assessment, and jail diversion services.
- Experience in records management and personal health information records.
