LOCATION: GATEWAY COLLEGE PREPARATORY SCHOOL - GEORGETOWN TX

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in the planning and implementation of academic activities that meets the individual needs of the student. Works as part of a team of educators to create and produce curriculum for students. Responsible for regular notes that reflect the academic and interactive progress of students.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assessment testing for newly admitted students
  • Support and encouragement to students in assisting them in learning and completing assignments
  • Provide behavior and classroom management support
  • Feedback on students in the daily milieu
  • Documents students' progress on a regular basis
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Participates in gathering assessment information for each student and, as a team member, plan for student success
  • Advocates for and responds to the needs of students

  • Assist classroom teacher in performing specific duties as assigned or undertaking specialized tasks to achieve and enhance instructional and behavioral objectives.
  • Work with individuals, small groups, or large groups as assigned teacher.
  • Assist with behavior modification as assigned by teacher.
  • Lift, move, and operate adaptive equipment (as needed)
  • Assist students with personal care tasks, including but not limited to, lavatory, clothing, hygiene, diapering, toileting, and wash-up routines.
  • Escort students as assigned by teacher or administrator.
  • Assist students with mobility needs such as, lifting and positioning students, lifting in and out of wheelchairs; escorting students in and around the school and on field trips (as needed).
  • Monitor students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments for the purpose of maintaining a safe and positive learning environment
  • Provide programmed practice activities and repetitions as developed by teacher, therapist or pathologist.
  • Report student concerns directly and expeditiously to teacher and assist with student resolution.
  • Assist with breakfast, lunch, snack, including clean-up.
  • Maintain various records and files.
  • Perform related work as required.
REQUIREMENTS:
Must have at least one of three following:

Associate's Degree or higher
Completed two years of study at an Institute of Higher Education (48 hours)
Passed a rigorous state or local assessment demonstrating knowledge of, and the ability to assist in; instruction reading; writing and math. Paraprofessional Academy training through Education Service Center
Educational Aide Certification; must apply when hired

Knowledge:

Previous experience with children in a professional educational setting.
Ability to plan and carry out activities for students that promote cooperative, support interactions.
Experience or training implementing behavior support with Special Education students preferred

COMPETENCIES:

CIP, CPR, First Aid, Valid Texas Driver's License, annual required staff development
