Job Summary

Reporting directly to District Judge, responsible for performing complex legal, administrative, and technical duties to support the daily district court operations. Serves District Courts of Williamson County. Level I of II based on Career Ladder policy.

Examples of Work Performed
  • Manages, schedules, and monitors the district court dockets including reviewing case files, pleadings, and attorney notes and information
  • Coordinates communication between the district court, attorneys, other courts, and the public
  • Provides complex legal, administrative and technical assistance for a judge. Prepares written opinions, court orders, and other documents as requested in one or more case areas, including criminal, civil, family, juvenile and tax cases
  • Performs general office duties, such as word processing, faxing, completion of reporting or statistical forms, ordering supplies, routing invoices, and responding to inquiries
  • Verifies accuracy and completeness of legal documents including adherence to local deadlines, policy and rule compliance, and statutory compliance. May perform complex statistical research, compilation of data and reporting on pending and disposed cases. Conducts research on case activity and preparation of statistical reports
  • Oversees recordkeeping compliance for the assigned court, ensures local and state regulations are followed including archival and document retention policies and procedures
  • Interacts with potential jurors to determine exemptions, and qualifications including distributing communication regarding service dates
  • Generates pending cases reports and initiates dismissal dockets
  • Manages accounts payable and receivable for the department by tracking receipts, and deposits, balancing discrepancy resolutions, and managing various spreadsheets and office supply budget and is point of contact for internal county audits
  • Assists in annual budget process by collaborating with judges and department leadership on equipment needs, and other issues for budget development
  • Performs purchasing coordination for the department, to include reconciliation/oversight of p-card use, generating purchase requisitions, processing invoices, management of relationships with suppliers, liaison with County A/P and Purchasing departments, and preparation of end‑of‑fiscal year reporting
  • Coordinates correspondence for judges
  • Collaborates with attorneys to ensure effective management of docket and ensure that cases are scheduled as needed
  • Oversees and manages the daily calendars for district judge
  • Schedules and distributes annual trial calendar
  • Serves as primary contact for assigned district court
  • Coordinates all administrative support related to daily activities and serves as department liaison for county departments
  • Provides direct customer service either in person or on the telephone regarding information requests
  • Attends all meetings and trainings, as required

Physical Demands
  • Position involves prolonged sitting at a workstation, visual examination of documents, reaching, walking, twisting, bending, standing and occasional lifting/carrying

  • Work is primarily indoors in an air‑conditioned environment
  • Regular travel between work sites as required
Irregular Hours
  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday‑Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency

Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate degree and three (3) years of legal experience OR equal combination of education and experience
  • One (1) year of demonstrated lead or supervisory experience
Licenses and Certifications

Required Within Thirty (30) Days Of Employment:
Valid Texas driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Three (3) years of complex court system experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in a legal role
  • Certified Court Manager Certification
