Job Description Job OverviewWe are seeking a highly experienced Functional Safety Specialist to support a critical safety compliance and validation function within an industrial production engineering environment. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in industrial safety engineering, with strong expertise in functional safety standards, safety control systems, and regulatory compliance.
This role requires excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills, effective cross‑functional coordination, and the ability to manage schedules, milestones, and priorities to meet project timelines.
Key Responsibilities- Develop detailed project plans and schedules for assigned areas
- Audit Safety Control Systems (SCS) for compliance with ISO 13849 and ANSI B11
- Identify, document, and resolve non‑conformities within SCS designs
- Design and verify countermeasures to achieve target control categories and performance levels
- Define deliverables, milestones, concerns, and key performance indicators
- Manage third‑party consultants against milestones and KPIs
- Lead cross‑functional collaboration to ensure timely issue resolution
- Provide written and verbal project status reports to management and stakeholders
- Audit SCS design modifications to ensure alignment with intended designs
- Mentor and support team members through technical coaching
- Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and implementation when required
- Contribute positively to a collaborative, team‑oriented work environment
- Functional Safety Certification (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer or equivalent)
- Certification credentials included with resume
- 5+ years of experience in functional safety engineering within industrial or automation environments
- Technical Associate’s Degree or higher in a related discipline
- Strong knowledge of ISO 13849-1, ANSI B11, and related safety standards
- Proven technical problem‑solving and countermeasure implementation skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Power Point
- Safety PLC programming experience, including reading, modifying, and configuring logic
- Experience with PLC/SPLC communication protocols and system integration
- Availability to support weekends, off‑shifts, holidays, and scheduled shutdowns
- Willingness to travel up to 30% (domestic and international)
- Ability to work in large industrial facilities, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, and kneeling
- Ability to safely lift, push, or pull up to 25 pounds
- Experience with risk assessment tools
- Knowledge of FMEA / FMEDA methodologies
- Experience with one or more Safety PLC platforms, including:
- Omron Sysmac (Safety)
- Toyopuc PCWin Safe
- Mid‑Senior level
