Summary Statement

An incumbent is responsible for developing and improving curricula, instructing assigned courses consistent with syllabi, evaluating student learning, and fostering student success.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Plans, organizes, and instructs courses as assigned, using effective instructional strategies, learning management system, communication, classroom management, leadership skills, and instructional technology to promote student success. Normal teaching contact hours per week are 18 unless modified.
  • Demonstrates best practices in instruction and classroom management that respond to students’ diverse academic needs.
  • Uses instructional technology including multimedia to meet students’ learning needs and achieve program objectives.
  • Assists or leads in planning and/or developing new curriculum and courses, evaluates and revises existing curriculum, contributes to program review.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of Student Learning Outcomes Assessment (SLOA).
  • Serves as an advisor for students, utilizing effective advisement strategies and tools to promote retention and progression.
  • Assists students toward successful completion of courses, providing outreach, guidance, feedback, supplemental instruction, tutoring, and other approved academic support.
  • Provides a minimum of six (6) posted office hours per week.
  • Maintains adequate and timely student records, posts grades in the LMS promptly, evaluates and reports students’ progress and attendance.
  • Works as a team member with other faculty and staff to facilitate college and program operations.
  • Assists in attaining and maintaining program accreditation.
  • Completes the New Faculty Development Program (NFDP) during the one‑year probationary period and completes the Instructional Design Technology Certificate or demonstrates mastery of its competencies.
  • Continues professional development and commitment to continuous improvement; remains current in the academic field.
  • Participates in departmental, campus, or college meetings, serves on committees, advises student clubs as assigned.
  • Participates in developing and implementing college policies, objectives, and functions (program planning, marketing, budget development, public relations).
  • Assists in providing support for operations/events/processes to enhance recruitment, enrollment, advisement, transfer, and graduate employment.
  • Participates in day, evening, and weekend program staffing as requested.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of effective instructional techniques and methods; relevant subject matter; computers and electronic instructional methodology; competency‑based learning.

Ability to develop teaching strategies that promote successful learning for diverse styles; use assessment to enhance learning; use instructional technology; create inclusive environment; maintain Equal Access/Equal Opportunity; work effectively in a diverse community; communicate effectively orally and in writing; relate to diverse populations in a multicultural environment.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Four (4) years of relevant nursing work experience with primary focus in psychiatric mental health nursing.
  • Possession of or eligibility for a valid license to practice as a registered nurse in Delaware or a compact state at time of application and during employment; demonstrated knowledge of nursing subject matter and clinical protocols.
