Person Specification

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES (ESSENTIAL – DESIRABLE)
- Pleasant and outgoing character who is also a good communicator.

RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING (ESSENTIAL – DESIRABLE)
- Good level of education.

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE (ESSENTIAL – DESIRABLE)
- Previous experience of working with the public.

SKILLS AND SPECIALIST KNOWLEDGE (ESSENTIAL – DESIRABLE)
- Interest and background knowledge of contemporary art and / or the history of Gwynedd.

LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (ESSENTIAL)
- Listening and Speaking – Higher Level: Able to follow a conversation or discussion through Welsh and English on a professional level and discuss general day‑to‑day topics in the field, present information, and express opinions. Able to give a pre‑prepared presentation and respond to comments and questions on it in Welsh or English.
- Reading and Understanding – Intermediate Level: Understand everyday correspondence on familiar issues at work and longer reports in clear Welsh. Pickup main points. (Help may be required with vocabulary.)
- Writing – Intermediate Level: Able to write letters for a specific purpose, emails and short reports in Welsh and English, using vocabulary and simple phrases familiar to the field of work. (They will need to be checked before being sent out).

Job Description

Purpose of the Post:
• Ensure that the people of Gwynedd are at the heart of everything we do.
• Assist with supervising the Museum and Highgate and respond to general enquiries from visitors.

Responsibility for functions: staff, budgets, equipment – None.

Main Duties:

  • Greet the public
  • Sell admission tickets
  • Sell produce from the shop
  • Supervise the site
  • Assist in the library and with enquiries
  • Assist and escort groups from schools
  • Open and close the buildings
  • Ensure compliance with the Health & Safety rules in the workplace in accordance with the responsibilities noted in the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Council’s Health and Safety Policy.
  • Operate within the Council’s policies and procedures in relation to equal opportunities and equality
  • Responsible for self‑development
  • Information management in accordance with the Council’s information management standards and guidelines. Ensure personal information is handled in compliance with Data Protection legislation.
  • Any other equivalent responsibility as directed by the line manager
  • Commitment to reducing the Council’s carbon emissions in accordance with the Carbon Management Plan, and to encourage others to act positively towards reducing the Council’s Carbon Footprint.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duty which corresponds to the salary level and responsibility level of the job.
  • Responsibility to report any worry or suspicion that a child or vulnerable adult is being abused.

Special Circumstances: Need to work unsociable hours, special working arrangements etc.

• Need to be available from 26 March to end October. Opening hours are 10:30 am–5:00 pm;
October 11–4 pm. Occasional work November–March. Work at weekends, bank holidays and in the evenings as and when required.
