Under the general supervision of the School Principal, this role is to develop students' listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills; foster communication; cultivate an appreciation of literature; motivate students to read widely; promote critical analysis; and support the mastery of English reading, grammar, and syntax.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer an English curriculum aligned with district goals.
- Create and deliver lesson plans that promote student engagement and individualized learning.
- Teach English grammar, syntax, composition, vocabulary, creative writing, and independent thinking.
- Facilitate group discussions and critical analysis of diverse reading materials.
- Prepare students for district and Alaska State standardized tests by adapting instruction.
- Assess student progress continuously and adjust instruction for all learners, including those with special needs.
- Maintain accurate records—grading, attendance, and student activity—following district procedures and laws.
- Encourage parental involvement and maintain effective communication.
- Uphold student conduct standards and create a functional learning atmosphere.
- Collaborate with grade-level and subject-area colleagues and participate in faculty meetings.
- Manage instructional supplies, select appropriate books, and maintain inventory records.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal and superintendent.
Performs other related tasks as designated by the school principal and central office administrators.
Equipment and TravelStandard office equipment (PC, printer, copy/mail, telephone). Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Current teaching methods and differentiated instruction based on learner styles.
- English language arts—grammar, usage, vocabulary, spelling, literature.
- Data analysis and the development of action plans.
- Applicable federal and state education laws.
- Proficiency with computer and network applications.
- Organization, coordination, and effective communication with students and parents.
- Self‑evaluation and professional growth.
- Cooperative working relationships with colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications- Teaching experience.
- Degree in Secondary Education.
- Effective classroom management skills.
- Technological proficiency in the classroom.
- Instructional differentiation.
- Blended learning experience.
- Experience with NWEA MAP data.
- Alaska State Certification as an English Education Teacher.
- Bachelor’s degree in an accredited education discipline;
Master’s preferred.
Successful prior teaching experiences in Social Studies and English are preferred.
