Under the supervision and guidance of the Co-COO, this position is responsible for the development and administration of adult and youth sports programs. The Sports Director should have strong people skills, organizational and administrative skills, including program development, supervision of staff and volunteers, financial development, and member service.
This director will develop and implement new programs into the YMCA during the course of her/his employment. Must believe in the YMCA’s philosophy and mission and be willing to teach, model, and implement character development values into all they oversee. This position is considered a professional-level position and is an exempt salaried position with a minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
The programs of responsibility are seasonal, and some seasons may require more than 40 hours per week. Expected hours will include most evenings and some weekend hours during various sports seasons.

Bachelor’s Degree in P.E., Recreation, or equivalent experience. Minimum age of 21 years old. Must have a strong base of knowledge of a variety of sports and their game rules. Must be able to demonstrate and coach fundamental skills in a variety of sports and recreational activities. Proficiency in office‑related technology, computer systems, and software in addition to multiple social media platforms.
Must excel in skills that include problem‑solving, communication, organization, relationship building, and multitasking. Ability to supervise, train, and support a diverse group of program staff and volunteers. Must work a schedule that reflects the needs of YMCA programming. Availability to work evenings and weekends during various sports seasons and recreational programs throughout the year. Sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to perform all essential functions and to lead all program activities in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor locations and environments.
Must clear a background/criminal history check.
