1. Objective of the AssignmentThe objectives of the consultancy are to:
- Identify accurate, up-to-date and reliable data and evidence for use in speeches and written materials
- Provide concise analytical insights that explain trends, risks and opportunities
- Support evidence-based messaging across priority thematic areas
- Ensure consistency and factual accuracy of data used in leadership communications
Research and Data Collection
- Identify credible data sources (e.g. official statistics, peer-reviewed research, reputable international organizations)
- Compile factoids, figures and comparative data relevant to priority themes
- Provide concise explanations of emerging issues, risks and developments
- Highlight regional or sectoral variations where relevant
- Prepare short analytical notes to inform speeches and written content
- Summarize complex research into clear, non-technical language
- Provide key takeaways and implications for messaging
- Suggest data-driven angles or narratives based on research findings
- Review draft content to verify factual accuracy
- 15–18 research briefs or fact sheets supporting speeches or statements
- Evidence packs for at least 20 speeches, social media posts, Forewords or other content
- Source compendium listing key datasets and references used
The Consultant will report directly to the Director of the News and Media Division.
4. Profile EducationEssential:
University degree in economics, public policy, statistics, social sciences, humanities, or a related field.
- Essential:
At least 3 years of experience in research, policy analysis or analytical support to communications or leadership. - Proven experience working with data, statistics and research sources.
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Ability to assess reliability and limitations of data sources
- Excellent synthesis skills, including summarizing complex material clearly and transforming it into compelling, engaging narratives
- High attention to detail and factual accuracy
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and respond to evolving requests
Essential:
Excellent written and spoken knowledge of English, with demonstrated ability to produce clear, concise and accurate texts.
The assignment runs from February to May 2026.
Payment will be made on a monthly basis, subject to submission of invoices by the Contractor, satisfactory completion of services and deliverables.
Applicants are requested to provide an indication of their daily remuneration expectations in Swiss Francs.
6. Other informationICS contractors fall outside the coverage of employment contracts for WIPO. Staff members and are not subject to the WIPO Staff Regulations and Rules. The contractor has no entitlement to vacation or sick leave, except for WIPO official holidays, or to medical insurance or staff pension. Absences from work will be deducted from the contractor’s payment on a pro-rated basis.
