Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Associate Executive Director, the Senior Youth & Family Director is a key leadership role responsible for developing, implementing, and supervising high-quality programs that strengthen youth, families, and the overall community. The position provides strategic oversight and direct leadership to multiple program areas, including Youth Programs, Family Programs, Child Watch, YBase, Preschool Programs, and Camp operations, ensuring alignment with the YMCA mission, values, and safety standards.
The Senior Youth & Family Director leads and mentors a team of program directors and coordinators, including the School Age Childcare and Preschool Director, Camp Director, and Montessori Director, to deliver meaningful and impactful experiences for children, teens, and families. This role collaborates closely with executive leadership to achieve association goals, manages departmental budgets, drives membership and program participation, and maintains high standards of staff training, child protection, and program quality.
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, relationship-focused leader who excels in collaboration, communication, and creative program development. They demonstrate strong organizational management skills, experience supervising multi-program departments, and a passion for nurturing youth and strengthening families.
Essential Functions- Provide Strategic Leadership Across Youth & Family Departments – lead, supervise, and develop directors and coordinators overseeing Youth Programs, Family Programs, Child Watch, YBase, Preschool Programs, Camp operations, and Montessori programs. Ensure all programs align with YMCA mission, values, safety protocols, and strategic priorities.
- Develop and Implement High‑Quality Program Experiences – create, evaluate, and refine comprehensive program plans that nurture the potential of children, teens, and families. Ensure programs are engaging, developmentally appropriate, inclusive, and responsive to community needs.
- Drive Program Growth, Membership Engagement, and Community Impact – strengthen member and participant experience through relationship-building, excellent service, and consistent quality. Support initiatives that increase program enrollment, retention, and connection to YMCA services.
- Ensure Highest Standards of Child Protection and Safety – maintain strict adherence to YMCA child protection policies, risk management procedures, and state licensing requirements. Ensure staff understand and consistently implement safety guidelines across all program areas.
- Lead Recruitment, Training, and Performance Management of Staff – recruit, hire, train, mentor, and evaluate program directors, coordinators, and frontline staff. Provide ongoing coaching to build a positive culture rooted in YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
- Manage Departmental Budgets and Financial Performance – develop and oversee budgets for all Youth & Family program areas. Monitor financial performance, manage expenses responsibly, and drive revenue through strong program participation.
- Collaborate with Executive Leadership on Association-Wide Goals – work closely with the Associate Executive Director and leadership team to align departmental strategies with organizational objectives. Contribute to long-range planning, community outreach efforts, and cross-departmental initiatives.
- Ensure High Standards of Program Quality and Continuous Improvement – conduct regular program audits, site visits, and staff observations. Implement improvements based on data, feedback, evaluation tools, and best practices.
- Strengthen Community Relationships and Partnerships – build and maintain strong relationships with families, community organizations, schools, and volunteers. Represent the YMCA in the community to promote programs and enhance visibility.
