Legal Counsel, Data Protection

We are seeking an experienced Legal Counsel, Data Protection, for our MSC Geneva facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company SA is a global shipping and logistics company present in 155 countries, headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Since 1978, MSC has grown from a one-vessel operation to the world's largest shipping and logistics company, committed to caring for customers, employees, and the environment.

We are looking for a highly motivated Legal Counsel specialized in Data Protection and Digital Law to join our Compliance – Data Protection Team. In this role, you will:

  • Advise MSC and its subsidiaries worldwide on data protection laws and compliance.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess their impact on business operations.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate data protection agreements.
  • Review and develop MSC’s data protection policies and standards globally.
  • Advise on international data transfers and transfer mechanisms.
  • Support digital initiatives, including AI and cybersecurity projects, from a legal perspective.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to ensure legal compliance.
  • Coordinate with external legal counsels when necessary.
  • Conduct internal training on data protection and confidentiality.

Required Qualifications

• Law degree from an accredited law school.

• 2-4 years of experience in data protection and digital law, preferably in a multinational environment or law firm.

• Good understanding of global data protection laws such as Swiss FADP, EU GDPR, and emerging frameworks in Asia, Latin America, and Africa.

• Knowledge of cybersecurity and AI-related legal frameworks and international data transfer mechanisms.

• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

• Strong organizational, communication, drafting, and negotiation skills.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced, global environment.

• Experience with One Trust is a plus.

• Privacy certification (e.g., CIPP) is a plus.

• Fluent in English; additional languages are a plus.
