Patient Support Managers are critical in ensuring that patients receive holistic care that goes beyond medical treatment in chronic disease projects.

They work to address the emotional, educational, and social needs of patients.

From assessing patient support needs to developing and implementing counselling and education protocols, Patient Support Managers empower patients to manage their illnesses. They play a key role in monitoring and evaluating support activities, ensuring effective communication and collaboration within the project.

This is a dynamic and impactful role that supports our humanitarian efforts, involving everything from staff management to community awareness activities, all aimed at enhancing patient well-being.

Responsibilities:

  • Define, coordinate, and monitor all emotional, educational, and social patient support activities within a chronic diseases project, like an HIV or tuberculosis project, in line with MSF principles and standards.
  • Assess patient support needs and develop strategies based on changing medical contexts.
  • Develop patient support tools, including counselling and education protocols, health promotion materials, and other resources.
  • Implement patient support activities such as health talks, education and counselling sessions, defaulter tracing, support group strengthening, and community awareness activities.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient support activities by defining indicators, collecting and analysing data, and ensuring effective follow-up.
  • Ensure good communication and collaboration with other project components and external partners involved in patient support.
  • Manage patient support staff, including planning and supervising recruitment, training, performance evaluations, and staff development in coordination with the human resources department.

Requirements:

  • University degree in psychology, counselling, social sciences, communication, health promotion, educational sciences, or nursing.
  • Minimum two years of experience in related roles.

Assets:

  • Experience with MSF or other NGOs.
  • Proficiency in project language.
  • Competencies in people management and development.
