Job Description

NRC Geneva is looking for an experienced Finance Technical Officer with solid knowledge of Swiss accounting standards and VAT rules to ensure accurate and compliant day-to-day accounting, support grant financial and fiscal reporting for the office in Geneva in full respect of Swiss law, Swiss GAAP, donor regulations and internal financial procedures.

What you will do
  • Perform daily bookkeeping and posting of financial transactions in the accounting software (Unit4).
  • Process accounts payable: control supplier invoices, execute payments (domestic and international), ensure correct cost allocation.
  • Handle all VAT‑related obligations, including preparation and submission of VAT returns, reconciliation of VAT accounts, and ensuring compliance with Swiss VAT regulations.
  • Prepare monthly bank and balance‑sheet reconciliations.
  • Support monthly and annual closing processes and contribute to the preparation of statutory accounts under Swiss GAAP. Ensure proper electronic and physical filing of all supporting documents.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external audits (Swiss certified auditor, donor audits).
  • Support the financial cycle of institutional grants (budget monitoring, expenditure eligibility checks, preparation and submission of financial reports and payment requests to donors).
  • Provide financial data and analysis to grant managers and alert on variances or risks.
  • Any other tasks as delegated by the line manager.
What you will bring
  • Solid knowledge of Swiss accounting standards (Swiss GAAP RPC / FER) and VAT rules.
  • Excellent command of Excel and good knowledge of accounting software.
  • Knowledge of social‑insurance system and/or payroll – a strong advantage.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
  • Experience in grant financial management within the humanitarian sector – a plus.
