Our client is a Commodity trading company based in Geneva.

The Senior Physical Crude Trader will be responsible for trading physical crude oil; with a focus on leveraging refining and logistical assets to maximise commercial returns. The role requires close collaboration with economics & scheduling, operations and risk functions to deliver margin optimisation and dynamic market positioning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead physical trading and origination of refinery approved grades of crude oil across several markets such as Americas, Mediterranean, Africa, etc. actively managing the book to generate sustainable value. (North Sea and BFOETW grades will be covered by the trading team based outside of Geneva).
  • Work closely with the economics and scheduling teams to align trading decisions with asset planning and operational capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain strong counter party relationships and market intelligence across the region to develop part-cargoes strategies to mitigate existing constraints around logistics.
  • Monitor market trends, geopolitical developments and supply-demand fundamentals to inform trading strategies.
  • Collaborate with risk, legal and finance teams to ensure trades are structured within policy frameworks and limits.
  • Mentor junior traders as required, contributing to the team’s commercial development.
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum 5-10 years’ experience in physical trading, ideally in an asset-backed or integrated refining and trading environment.
  • Proven track record of P&L generation, market origination and asset optimisation.
  • Deep understanding of crude oil markets, logistics and trading structures.
  • Experience working closely with scheduling, refining economics and operations teams.
  • Strong network of industry contacts and counter parties.
  • Excellent commercial acumen and risk awareness.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a proactive and adaptive approach to market dynamics.
  • Strong analytical, numerical and decision-making skills.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism and a team-orientated attitude.
  • Effective communicator with the ability to operate cross-functionally.
  • Fluent in English, additional European languages such as Danish, German or French would be advantageous.
