Finance Coordinator

Marie-Jocelyne Nshimirimana is the finance coordinator for one of MSF’s biggest operations worldwide, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as of January 2022. Franck Ngonga / MSF

The Finance Coordinator plays a crucial role in overseeing and managing the financial operations of our programmes.

Finance Coordinators ensure accurate and transparent financial information is provided to MSF and external parties.

Responsibilities include coordinating funding agreements with donors, managing treasury operations, providing financial indicators, leading and developing the finance team, and ensuring compliance with MSF policies and legal requirements.

This role requires strong leadership, strategic vision, financial management skills, and experience in budgeting and team management, preferably in humanitarian or NGO contexts.

This is a diverse role involving:

Responsibilities:
  • Define, coordinate, and monitor the implementation of finance strategies, policies, internal controls, and legal issues.
  • Provide accurate, transparent, and timely financial information to MSF and third parties.
  • Participate in defining programme objectives, planning, and monitoring financial needs.
  • Assess and mitigate financial risks, ensuring organizational setup and internal controls.
  • Ensure compliance with MSF policies, legal requirements, and national frameworks.
  • Manage funding agreements with donors, including proposals, reports, and contracts.
  • Coordinate treasury management, bank accounts, and payments.
  • Provide financial indicators for monitoring the programme's financial health.
  • Manage, supervise, and develop the finance team, including coaching and training.
  • Alert staff on financial risks and responsibilities.
  • Ensure proper application of HR policies related to finance activities.

Coordinate monthly and yearly account closures to reflect the programme's financial status.

Responsibilities may adapt based on project needs. Support is provided by MSF team members, both international and local.

Requirements:
  • Degree in Economics or Finance; higher vocational training or MBA may be required in some offices.
  • Two years of experience in budget and team management.
  • Fluency in the working language, English required for OCG.
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, ERP, internet).
Assets:
  • Experience in MSF or NGOs.
  • Experience in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Strong skills in leadership, teamwork, and service orientation.
