We work to reduce violence, protect civilians in countries affected by violent conflict and its aftermath, and help transform the world’s response to conflict situations.

OVERVIEW

This position is based within the Finance team at the NP Headquarters in Geneva, which plays a central role in supporting NP’s global operations. As part of an internal reorganisation aimed at streamlining processes and enhancing team efficiency, we are seeking additional support for day‑to‑day financial tasks.

This part‑time role offers a great opportunity for someone looking to contribute to an international, collaborative, and purpose‑driven environment, while playing a key role in ensuring the smooth running of financial operations.

JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Assistant will play a vital role in supporting the financial operations of our organisation. Working closely with the Global Finance Team, you will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, managing cash and bank accounts, and ensuring compliance with financial policies and procedures, and donor regulations.

The Accounting Assistant will report to the Global Financial Controller and will work closely with other global finance colleagues as well as other departments within the organisation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Day‑to‑day accounting transactions for NPI
  • Input of weekly payments in the e‑banking system
  • Dissemination of monthly intercompany reports to the various Country Programs
  • Maintain accurate financial records in compliance with the organisation’s financial policies and procedures
  • Process payment requests, including verifying supporting documentation and obtaining necessary approvals
  • Prepare bank reconciliations and other month‑end closing routines for NPI
  • Assist in reviewing and verifying invoices, expense claims, and other financial documents
  • Assist in the preparation of financial audit files and responses to audit queries
  • Support to the Global Finance team as necessary
  • Participate in professional development activities, as needed or requested
  • Perform other duties, as needed and/or requested by the supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS Education, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Relevant vocational studies in Commerce (CFC) with more than 10 years of accounting and controlling experience OR bachelor's degree in finance and/or accounting with a minimum of 1 year of experience OR Federal Brevet in finance & accounting (Brevet Fédéral de spécialiste en finance et comptabilité) with a minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Experience in an international environment
  • Experience working with accounting software and ERP. Experience with Quick Books Online is a plus.
Skills and Competencies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and Power BI, including collaborative tools as Teams and Outlook.
  • Confident using SharePoint and access control tools.
  • Experience in setting new processes or tools.
Interpersonal
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately and efficiently.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Committed, proactive, with an optimisation mindset.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and build positive and respectful relationships with colleagues from diverse national and cultural backgrounds, across several time zones.
Language

Ability to interact confidently and present financial information effectively to colleagues and external contacts in verbal and written English and French.
