Job Description & How to Apply Below
The primary focus is on the manipulation and expulsion of magnetic flux vortices within the superconducting film and assessing the role of thermal currents in their dynamics. This is a challenging, multi-disciplinary project where you will take a lead role in developing the underlying physical model, operating CERN's Magnetic Flux Lens (MFL) setup, and analysing the resulting data. Ultimately, your work will contribute to a pragmatic understanding of superconductivity with significant application to SRF research.
Of particular interest is the study of flux dynamics in thin film Nb on Copper substrates, as well as more novel materials such as Nb3
Sn and NbTiN, in Superconductor-Insulator-Superconductor (SIS) structures.
- You have a professional background in Radio-frequency, Superconductivity (or a related field) and have either:
- a
Master's degree with 2 to 6 years of post-graduation professional experience; - or a
PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience.
- a
- You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
