Emmanuel Episcopal Church Geneva, founded in 1873, is a historic spiritual community located in the heart of Geneva near the beautiful lakefront. Known for its rich cultural tapestry, the church draws members from the greater Geneva area and neighboring France, cultivating a welcoming and diverse community. With a unique history, including hosting one of the largest English-language libraries in Geneva, the church continues to serve as a spiritual center and a hub for cultural exchange.
Emmanuel combines a vibrant, multinational congregation with a tradition of community engagement, valuing connection, inclusivity, and meaningful worship experiences.
The Associate Rector will play a crucial role in supporting the Rector and the Vestry in the running of the church. This on-site position located in the Geneva Metropolitan Area includes delivering sermons, conducting worship services, providing pastoral care, and offering spiritual guidance to members of the congregation. Responsibilities also include fostering community engagement and supporting the Rector in administrative and operational needs of the Church.
This will be a 25% appointment. The post will be initially for 2 years, commencing on 01.06.2026.
The post will be remunerated in accordance with the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Requirements- A priest of the Episcopal Church, or from a church in full communion with the Episcopal Church.
- Qualifies to work in Canton of Geneva, Switzerland
- Will complete all Safeguarding requirements of the Convocation of Episcopal Churches in Europe and background checks.
- Fluent in English and good level of fluency in French.
- Authentic Christian spirituality shaped by or open to the Episcopal/Anglican tradition.
- Prayerful and meditative
- Unconditionally accepting of a diverse and multinational community.
- A love of liturgy and skilled in using the liturgies and music of the Episcopal church.
- Good at preaching and communicating both orally and in the written word.
- Someone who challenges the congregation in their preaching and who is not afraid of being challenged.
- Pastorally gifted and someone who values offering pastoral care.
- Eager and able to provide support to leaders of those working with children and young people as well as investing time with young families.
- Competent at leading Confirmation classes with the Deacon and Adult Formation programs.
- Ability to develop Emmanuel’s online ministry in prayer and formation.
- A good team-player able to work collaboratively with Rector, Deacon, licensed lay Ministers and laity.
- Administratively competent liaising with the Administrator and the Communications Officer.
- Supportive of Emmanuel’s Outreach projects and the Emmanuel Refugee Welcome Center.
It is envisaged that the priest will preside at the Eucharist both at 8:30 and 10:30 once a month and preach up to 8 times a year. The Associate Rector will play a full part in regular staff meetings with the Rector and Deacon.
