Job Description

Your responsibilities

Are you passionate about science?

Do you have an eye for visual storytelling?

Would you like to be part of a dynamic team and work at the world’s leading particle-physics laboratory communicating the latest scientific developments to a global audience through the means of immersive media productions?

Come and join CERN’s Audiovisual Production team! CERN has an opening for an Early Career Graduate – a 3D Visual animator in augmented and virtual reality in the Editorial Content Production section (ECP) of the Education, Communications and Outreach (ECO) group in the International Relations (IR) sector.

The IR-ECO-ECP section includes a team of professionals in charge of producing creative and educational contents to illustrate the high-level scientific projects and results of the Laboratory and make them easily understandable for a non-expert audience.

A 3D animator and VR/AR developer dedicated to the Future Circular Collider (FCC) study is highly needed in order to make a still non‑existent scientific infrastructure visible and tangible to a variety of stakeholders. The 3D animations are the most effective tool to showcase the FCC and explain the various parts of the accelerator and its detectors to non‑experts.

The core tasks and responsibilities of the immersive media developer will include:

  • Produce photo‑realistic 3D imagery of the FCC accelerator and related detectors.
  • Prepare models based on CATIA and CAD drawings and data.
  • Create digital twins of the accelerator and its detectors and combine them with physics simulations, to render a faithful and pedagogical visual description of both this unique infrastructure and the physics processes.
  • Produce Computer Generated Imagery (CGI) and interactive products combining digital elements with real pieces of equipment.
  • Accompany and document the FCC milestones and its integration in the environment with appropriate audiovisual materials.
  • Explore AI assisted image generation, for the purpose of even more realistic rendering and streamlined fast production of the visuals.
  • Produce visuals for brochures, interactive presentations and short video clips integrating the animations with interviews and filmed footage.

In addition to developing organisational and communication skills in an international research laboratory, the successful candidate will gain increased knowledge about high‑energy physics, technology and international collaboration in a unique multicultural environment.
