This is a temporary assignment (Parental leave cover) for a short‑term period from 16 December 2025 to 15 June 2026.
The selection process is not subject to the rules and procedures defined in Annex I of the ILO Staff Regulations.

In conformity with existing ILO practice, the appointment of an external candidate will normally be made at the first step of this grade.
The position is located in the International Labour Review Section (REVUE) of the ILO Research Department. The International Labour Review (ILR) is the world's leading multidisciplinary journal of labour market institutions and economics. It has been published since 1921, by the ILO up to 2007, by Wiley‑Blackwell up to 2024 and now by the Open Library of Humanities (OLH).
Published quarterly in English, French and Spanish, its aim is to advance academic research and inform policy debate and decision‑making by bringing together the original thinking of lawyers, economists, sociologists, political scientists and industrial relations specialists on a broad range of labour market policy and social protection concerns.
The purpose of the position is to contribute to the production of the English edition of the ILR, upholding the journal’s commitment to an editorial policy that combines accessibility and readability with rigorous, insightful analysis and the highest scholarly standards. The position reports to the Managing Editor of the REVUE.
Specific Duties- Edit, redraft as required and finalise for publication highly technical research papers and book reviews in English from a range of disciplines (including economics, sociology and law) to ensure that they meet the highest scholarly standards, including accuracy, coherence, clarity and presentation in accordance with the ILR’s editorial policy aims and style.
- Produce self‑revised, commercially publishable English translations of highly technical research papers and book reviews in original Spanish and French.
- Correspond with authors to secure approval of edited articles and, where required, to clarify substantive and referencing issues.
- Adapt abstracts of ILR articles capturing the main message of research on complex issues.
- Follow assignments through to finalisation, notably in cooperation with PRODOC, the REVUE team and the OLH for the proofreading stages, and sign off on final proofs.
- Conduct the preliminary evaluation of unsolicited manuscripts when required.
- Respond to internal and external queries on editorial practice, provide technical advice and contribute to the establishment of editorial procedures and guidelines.
- Keep abreast of developments and new topics in relevant research and policy, both within the ILO and internationally, taking an active interest in the terminology, conceptual frameworks and analytical categories of the various disciplines.
- Attend REVUE and other relevant meetings, including with PRODOC, associated with the ILR publication.
- Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Advanced level university degree in social sciences, languages or law or first level with two years relevant experience in addition to the experience below.
ExperienceAt least seven years of professional experience in writing, translating, revising and / or editing, with strong technical specialization in social and labour issues internationally.
LanguagesPerfect command of English and proficiency in Spanish and French.
Competencies TechnicalConsiderable depth of knowledge and understanding of a broad range of subjects, or a high degree of knowledge and understanding of a particular substantive field.
