The Grand Bargain, launched during the WHS in Istanbul in May 2016, is a unique agreement between some of the largest donors and humanitarian organisations who have committed to get more means into the hands of people in need and to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of humanitarian action.
The Grand Bargain is a unique forum bringing together donors and aid organisations to drive progress on a common vision of maximising the impact of humanitarian work. The process is supported by a Secretariat, responsible for overall coordination and communication in the process, and for providing specific support to the governance bodies, namely the Grand Bargain Ambassadors and the Facilitation Group.
The Secretariat is hosted by the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) in the Humanitarian Hub in Geneva. NRC provides administrative support regarding the recruitment of staff that are contracted by the organisation. As per NRC procedures, all employees are expected to work in accordance with the organisation’s core values: dedication, innovation, inclusivity, and accountability. These attitudes and beliefs shall guide our actions and relationships.
The Grand Bargain Secretariat is now looking for an Assistant to provide essential support to the team in delivering on the objectives of the Grand Bargain 3.0 ). This role is uniquely suited for a candidate with demonstrated knowledge and in-depth understanding of the Grand Bargain process, its evolution under the 3.0 iteration, and its governance and implementation challenges. The Assistant will primarily provide comprehensive analytical, administrative, and logistical support, assist with research, high-level communications, and event organisation for the Secretariat.
What you will do:Under the supervision and guidance of the Senior Leader, Adviser, and Policy and Communications Officer the Grand Bargain Assistant will provide support in the following areas:
- Assist with background research and review of reports on specific humanitarian policy issues directly informing Grand Bargain 3.0 priorities (quality funding, localisation, participation, anticipatory action, nexus and innovative financing)
- Contribute to drafting background information and supporting documents for Grand Bargain Ambassadors, Facilitation Group meetings, Caucus meetings, Signatory updates, and the Grand Bargain's newsletter and website.
- Support meetings and events by drafting minutes, summary notes, and action points for Grand Bargain governance bodies (Ambassadors' meetings, Facilitation Group sessions, Caucus meeting)
- Provide logistical and administrative support for high-level Grand Bargain events, including annual meetings, requiring scheduling and coordination with the diverse global stakeholder base of the Grand Bargain.
- Provide support for monitoring and assist with the preparation of complex charts and analytical outputs related to the Grand Bargain's annual self-reporting process, including contributing to the synthesis report.
- Support targeted outreach and communication, contributing to the development of high-quality internal and external communication products for the Grand Bargain's official website, social media channels (e.g., Linked In), and newsletter.
- Assist with the design of impactful visuals (infographics, explanatory visuals) that simplify complex Grand Bargain topics.
- Support the preparation of donor reports and material for grants in line with donor requirements. Carry out procurement as needed, adhering to NRC procedures.
- Bachelor's degree and recently graduated (or in the process of graduating) from a Master’s degree programme in social science, international development, international relations, or related field.
- Demonstrated working knowledge and applied understanding of the Grand Bargain process, including its evolution, governance structures, and the priorities outlined under Grand Bargain 3.0, preferably gained through engagement with the Grand Bargain.
- Experience supporting multi-stakeholder negotiation/coordination processes is highly desirable.
